The Best Freeware Airports and Scenery for FS9

Recommended Posts

What strucks me when I have visited the links provided here, is the sheer amount of just incredible sceneries that I still have to explore and how much life left there is in FS9! I only feel saddened that I have no way of giving back to the community since I have no skill whatever in creating anything for MSFS... By the way, is there anyone that can accomodate a wife and two kids for a couple of months when I go exploring the fs9 world? :D
Hmmmm - the wife offer is tempting but the kids? Nahhhh! :( But I sure am with you - why is it that "real life" keeps getting in the way of what we all should really be doing?BTW, your own country has provided some of the absolute best freeware of all. I have had many incredibly enjoyable flights with custom ground textures, custom mesh and awesome airports all provide by the guys at FISD. I love to fire up my Finnair Flight1 ATR and fly in such a beautiful place and have totally immersive airports (most of them AES supported) to fly in and out of. Fantastic!

KBWI--kbwi2k5v2.zipKIAH--KIAH v3KSMF--KSMF 2008KSNA--sna2004.zipAnything from Framerate Friendly StudiosAnything from Mach 1 Design GroupThere are many more out there. Some have already been mentioned, and I have most likely forgotten about others. If your looking for an airport...any airport...it has most likely been designed by somebody. It just goes to show how amazing and giving that the members of our small little hobby are.

How about any freeware for UUEE? Moscow Sheremetyevo.
Best one available is "svolite11.zip" right here in the Avsim library.

I will recommend 3 airporst in China. None of these airports are part of the FS9 default airports.Luzhou Lantian airport (IATA: LZO, ICAO: ZULZ) http://www.avsimrus.com/files.phtml?action=download&id=37880Dehong Mangshi airport (IATA: LZO, ICAO: ZPLX) http://www.avsimrus.com/files.phtml?action=download&id=38440Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport (IATA: JZH, ICAO: ZUJZ) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=157789If you use the Dehong Mangshi airport scenery the ICAO code they use is ZPMS, but just about all the flightplans I have seen uses the code ZPLX. So if you want AI to show up at the airport open up AFCAD and change the ICAO code in the properties section.

URKK Krasnodar - another brilliant bit of Russian freeware - did nobody mention this before? A few minutes inland from Sochi on the Black Sea, with a good bit of surrounding (looks like handpainted) terrain and agn and blends in really nicely with the default - something that is really important for me.http://www.avsimrus.com/files.phtml?uploader=33720 Two files needed.Crikey! Just taken off from USSS and seen the beautiful surrounding landscape - and these guys do this for the love of it and give it away for free! I wish I could name a couple of payware vendors that that really should learn a few lessons from looking at these sceneries - and who should either lower their prices or raise their quality and detail. These airports add another bit of fun - being able to fly the outrageous neon-green S7 Boeings and Buses instead of the tired old white and blue that pretty much everybody else uses.AvsimRU = :(

All of the CalClassic scenery. Of course the airports are depicted as they were in 1959 or 1962, when real airplanes had big round piston engines with props and were flown by real pilots who knew what they were doing rather than todays computers. Just my two cents. Give it a try, its another whole world. Look at LAS in 1962 with the animated neon of the strip and the Super Chief pulling into the train station downtown. Or try PHNL when the terminal was on the ocean (makai) side of the runway.

Here is a little tip for Max's new Mauritius scenery. If you download Colin Penney's Republic of Mauritius scenery (mauritius_and_rodrigues.zip on avsim) and use the landclass folder from that scenery together with Max's new Mauritius scenery it make the new airport even better.

LH Simulation's FS9 Hungary airport sceneries. They are incredible - totally immersive old airfields that were formerly Warsaw Pact military bases that are just full of atmosphere and all kinds of little details. FPS friendly, merge beautifully into surrounding scenery - absolutely amazing!http://www.lhsimulations.hu/?lang=enCheersIan
