October 11, 201015 yr I have just started using this beta, in standard mode with FSUIPC controlling wind/baro/temp smoothing. I have noticed that FSX stutters slightly and the image flashes during what appears to be new weather being updated into FSX. Is this normal and to be expected in the final build, or will it be smoothed out? It's not a game stopper, but annoying to see. However, if its part of a compromise to improve aloft winds/visual weather depiction, I can accept it.Ideally, if weather update supression works at preventing wx being injected during the takeoff phase (anytime below the supression altitude) and during the descent phase (80 miles from destination with Force Destination WX zone) the short period of enroute wx stutters won't be a big deal, at least for me. October 11, 201015 yr Did you play with DWC mode before? If yes, than try to change options to standard and open/close ASE 2 or 3 times. Should help. Also dynamic change of weather could play role here. I had something similar - well actually sim was pausing for a 10 to 15 seconds (sometime more). It appears to have stopped now, but I will do full testing next week - with my new PC :) Tom Link
October 11, 201015 yr Hi AJ,If you are the same user who posted at our forum about this, the you are the first to report such activity. What actually flashes, the clouds, sky, panel, ground? That might help us narrow this down.
October 11, 201015 yr I have this problem also after installing 625. I never used DWC or something similar. I used the standard mode and there was a lot of stuttering and cloud popping also.Edward Smeets I7 OC 4.2Mhz MSI NGTX560 TI HAWK Asus P6T Mushkin Redline 6 Gb 6-7-6-18 Antec 850W Truepower WD Velo300Gb 2x WD Black 600Gb XP64b Antec Twelve Hundred Scythe Mugen Radar Contact/ FSX Gold/ ASA&ASE/AS2012/PMDG MD11/ LevelD 767/ FSUIPC registered
October 11, 201015 yr The sky begins to flash/stutter . In the past we could resolve this by disabling the green band for weather report at the top of the screen. Duration is at least 30 seconds or more.Edward Smeets I7 OC 4.2Mhz MSI NGTX560 TI HAWK Asus P6T Mushkin Redline 6 Gb 6-7-6-18 Antec 850W Truepower WD Velo300Gb 2x WD Black 600Gb XP64b Antec Twelve Hundred Scythe Mugen Radar Contact/ FSX Gold/ ASA&ASE/AS2012/PMDG MD11/ LevelD 767/ FSUIPC registered
October 11, 201015 yr Jim,Currently using B625 on a simconnect-client and I'm seeing this white flashing too. It's in the top 10% of the sky and only seems to occur during station updates when ASE indicates "Depiction Output Active" at the bottom. I'm running standard mode with range-suppresion set to 150nm but suppression range on or off doesn't seem to change the occurance; nor does enabling or disable the on-screen status bar messages. It's almost as if that early FSX white-out problem is trying to start but doesn't completely white-out the screen as it did in those early days. This a new problem with these latest betas.Regards, Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
October 12, 201015 yr Hi All,I need to report back on these things and say that all these events are normal right now for the mode you are using.I need to ask each of you to read up on each of the different modes and the pros and cons of each. Those are described in the Revisions document in your ASE folders. There are going to be trade offs for each Mode.
October 12, 201015 yr Author As mentioned by others, the flashing is on the upper part of the screen, with a very noticable period of stutters/fps fluctuations. I'm not sure if it only happens when a new wx download is being injected into the sim. I had tried range suppression also and had the same issue. For the time being, I have increased the weather d/l interval from 15 to 30 minutes. I read about the three new modes, and decided standard is best for me (Payware heavies in long hauls with an emphasis on enroute winds accuracy) A.J. Domingo
October 12, 201015 yr Hi,Under Standard mode the flashing may happen just like with FSX weather or other weather data.
October 12, 201015 yr Hi,Under Standard mode the flashing may happen just like with FSX weather or other weather data.Sorry Jim, I have to disagree. I have never seen this "top of the sky flashing white" during station updates, even in the more recent updates such as ASE SP1. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
October 12, 201015 yr Hi Al,Because up until B625 there has not been a standard mode in ASE. This information I posted about came right from Damian. We also know that it could be video card/driver related as well in regards to who sees the flashes and who doesn't. For example, Damian has 3 test machines and gets flashes on 2 of them. I have one machine and I did not see a single flash last night in my testing. So if you use standard mode you may or may not experience this.
October 13, 201015 yr Author The problem with the new standard depiction is not just a cosmetic issue with the flashing, but the introduction of microstutters that last for about 30 sec - 1 minute. And they appear to be occuring frequently. I had this happen to me the minute I landed on a runway, even though I had suppression below 7000 ft enabled. I almost ran off the runway because the stuttering was so bad. What I don't understand, is the previous SP1 with the latest updates performed smoothly thoughout the flight regime, with DWC turned off. Why does the new standard mode (which I interpret as the preSP2 beta with DWC off) have to bring stutters and flashes when the previous version did not?I'm afraid I will have to reinstall ASE to the pre beta version, because it worked so nicely on my system. What are the advantages of having the new standard option vs DWC off in the previous version? If we are to accept having these microstutters, are we getting something in return to compensate for that? Is it a tradeoff for better weather depiction/winds aloft? From what I see with the beta, I don't see a big improvement worth the stutters/flashes.My video driver is Nvidia 258.96, windows7 64bit, in case you are curious. Thanks for your attention to this, I hope this is something that can be alleviated before the final release. October 14, 201015 yr Hi,No, that is not right. B625 has Standard mode and this mode has NEVER been a part of ASE. Don't think that non-DWC mode before B625 was the same as Standard. Also, the stuttering is going to be a con of Standard Mode along with the flashing. You could also try the other Modes and see how they react on your system.
October 14, 201015 yr Author At this point, I really just want things the way I had them before, with DWC off. Meaning no stutters or flashes, plain and simple. The other two options (DWC and Smooth Cloud) are not for me, I like to fly airliners at high altitudes with decent enroute wind accuracy, even if that means cloud pops or changes in flight. DWC will never be an option for me, I gave it a try and experienced bad s-turns in PMDG a/c, not to mention the other issues with ATIS and AI landing on wrong runways. And it seems Smooth Cloud is for slow GA flights or circuit patterns, which I do not fly.Jim, can you elaborate on what the Standard mode offers (compared to DWC off in the previous version) that can make the stutters acceptable for users? Apparently, the stutters are part of this new standard mode, but I would like to know if those stutters are the price to pay for enhanced accuracy of winds or depiction. It's a tradeoff I can accept if I it is improving things, I just don't see what has improved in reference to the pre-beta builds. A.J. Domingo
October 14, 201015 yr Last flight with the MD11 , I had no stutters after enabling DWC shut off ASE and start ASE and enabling Standard Mode . I got only microstutters on the runway on arrival and departure. The bad news is that I never get the good winds on arrival. The correct winds are there after 10 sec after touchdown.Standard ModeDynamic Rate of Change tried 30% + 50% Force Destination Wx zone enabledAutomatic Downloads 30min I7 OC 4.2Mhz MSI NGTX560 TI HAWK Asus P6T Mushkin Redline 6 Gb 6-7-6-18 Antec 850W Truepower WD Velo300Gb 2x WD Black 600Gb XP64b Antec Twelve Hundred Scythe Mugen Radar Contact/ FSX Gold/ ASA&ASE/AS2012/PMDG MD11/ LevelD 767/ FSUIPC registered
