Beta 625 stutters in standard depiction mode

Featured Replies

The problem with the new standard depiction is not just a cosmetic issue with the flashing, but the introduction of microstutters that last for about 30 sec - 1 minute. And they appear to be occuring frequently. I had this happen to me the minute I landed on a runway, even though I had suppression below 7000 ft enabled. I almost ran off the runway because the stuttering was so bad. What I don't understand, is the previous SP1 with the latest updates performed smoothly thoughout the flight regime, with DWC turned off. Why does the new standard mode (which I interpret as the preSP2 beta with DWC off) have to bring stutters and flashes when the previous version did not?I'm afraid I will have to reinstall ASE to the pre beta version, because it worked so nicely on my system. What are the advantages of having the new standard option vs DWC off in the previous version? If we are to accept having these microstutters, are we getting something in return to compensate for that? Is it a tradeoff for better weather depiction/winds aloft? From what I see with the beta, I don't see a big improvement worth the stutters/flashes.My video driver is Nvidia 258.96, windows7 64bit, in case you are curious. Thanks for your attention to this, I hope this is something that can be alleviated before the final release.
I confirm the stuttering in Standard mode. Also, winds on departure airports still tend to change rapidly leading to AI landing and departing on both ends of the runways.Menno

All,All I would be doing is copying and pasting the descriptions of each mode from the Revisions txt file. We encourage you to read that document, specifically the descriptions of those modes.

Jim,Since you don't have time to copy and paste from the Revision txt file from B625 I will do it for you. This is from B625 - Standard Mode - "May result in simulation stutters/pauses during weather writes (supports write suppression ceiling to prevent updates below a certain altitude)." I can confirm this. It will happen while taxing, during take off and during landing. The average time for the stutters/pauses is about 15-30 seconds for me. The Revision txt file from B625 for Direct Weather Control states "May cause occasional S-Turning effect with with some 3rd party aircraft autopilot systems." I can confirm this. It causes S-turns in PMDG B744 and MD-11, Cool Sky MD-82, default B737 and B747. It also causes S-turns when trying to fly these aircraft manually. The Revision txt talks about "Smooth Cloud Transitions". I have read the txt a couple of times and I still am not sure what it does to the winds, if anything.Bill Bridges

I've made up my mind and will be reinstalling ASE to get back to the state it was in before the SP2 beta. I had my own kind of "suppression" where I disabled weather downloads on takeoff and top of descent, and to me it seemed weather write suppression is the big advantage of the new beta, but the stutters it introduces is unacceptable for me.I hope I can just uninstall/clean install ASE without having to reinstall FSX, please confirm. I have tons of addons and cannot do a reinstall of everything again, it will take days!

To me this standard option is equal to the way REX is inserting the weather. The reason why i went to ASE was that weather was loaded without stuttering. Now I am in deep s... Anyone tried to fly Level-D for example during weather being loaded? Or even worse, leave plane on speed x2 or x4 during weather update? I give you answer - bank angle and crash...You can really get frustrated.

Bill,Then the Modes do exactly what they say they are going to do. We include the pros and cons so that users can make an informed decision as to which mode to use. We are also looking to adjust things a little bit as we move forward.767fan,That is correct. We don't introduce anything into FSX.ST1332,That is correct also, this is the same process that REX uses to insert weather. And we never suggest using time compression with any of our weather programs. I am going to suggest that you try another Mode.

I also get the stutters, big flashed of white above my plane, and sometimes clouds appearing and dissappearing around me (which I assume the suppression feature will eventually eliminate). However, I have to say there is a great improvement in accuracy in the weather and the winds alofts, even though I have seen some situations where the winds were a bit different on the ground than the ASE report had indicated, but nothing shockingly out of whack. And to add, I have never seen this type of white flash stutter in REX, so something that ASE does is causing this. IF you need any info on my part, I will be happy to supply it.

Hi Scott,Yes, we know that it is Smiconnect that causes the flashes and the new Standard Mode is direct to SimConnect. It doesn't happen all the time or to everyone. No it is not unique to ASE.

JimI have got the stutters and the flashes to - I7 950 with a GTX480 and 6 GIG of RAM. At first I thought the stutters might have been caused by my new flytampa KBUF, but having exited ASE, it was clear that it was caused by ASE. Have a feeling having fiddled around for a while, that interaction with FSUIPC might be part of the problem.I'm sure you'll get it fixed in due course.Kind regardsRob

Hi Rob,You are probably in Standard Mode, not caused by FSUIPC but by SimConnect and the stutters will always be there as this will be a con of Standard Mode.

So you say the flashes are due to Standard Mode, and that Standard Mode is new to SP2. I take it then the Cloud Smooth mode (or whatever the official name of it is, not the DWC mode), is the mode that was used by ASE prior to SP2?

Hate to throw a wrench in the works here, but...with build 625, I am getting frequent clouds disappearing / re-appearing, especially bad in the climb to cruise and the trip back down...using DWC ON with registered FSUIPC as I have done since ASE v1, nothing has changed in my settings or hardware. Also, the visibility graduation is suspect...depicts hazy conditions at cruise altitude, then a few seconds later clear, it's 50/50 if the haze shows up below ~10,000ft. It's like FSUIPC and ASE are constantly battling each other for control of weather...or ASE is having troubles communicating to FSX. I have the ASE optional cloud sliders to zero, vis graduated ON, settings as they have been since long before b625.I deal with interfacing problems in my day job...so I sympathise with the challenges trying to fix this type of stuff.I can provide screen shots, etc, but I am pretty sure I am not the first to report the issue on this forum.Thanks,Rob.

same here, cloud and sky flashes. I will try the smooth cloud transition setting but dislike how it says "may lead to unrealistic weather"

Scott,DWC mode is still present and is called Direct Weather Control.ACA,The Build we just released today may help the visibility issue.413,You might want to try DWC Mode.

I will give it a try! Thanks Jim.
