September 18, 200322 yr I have been using a CH Yoke and pedals for a while and all is well for the most part. As others have reported the yoke (particularly in terms of pitch) gets very sticky. I did use graphite powder to do my best to lubricate it, but the real problem seems to be a dead spot in the springs. Has anyone opened up one of these units to see if its possible to replace the springs?
September 19, 200322 yr I have opened the yoke several times (8 screws, of which 2 underneath the rubber thingies in the corners). And yes, the springs are very easy to replace if you have new ones. But I doubt that the springs are the problem; inside there are two sliding mechanism's that drive the potmeters by the yoke axis. You probably need to lubricate them to get rid of the dead spot.Rob
September 19, 200322 yr I recall my conversation with a CH representative during last year Avsim conference - graphite powder is the WRONG lubricant to be used since it is petroleum-based. They only recommend silicon-based lubricants. Wrong lubricant is apparently responsible for most problems people are having with the "sticky" yoke - such lubricant is actually slowly "eating" the shaft and damaging it beyond repair.I recall ths conversation very well though it took place almost a year ago. I never owned the yoke before so I used the Avsim conference to test this and other hardware/software. I was specially interested in the CH yoke since I read before so many reports that the yoke "sticks". To my surpise I found the yoke very smooth and the CH guy assured me there was no lubricant of any kind applied to that yoke. I went ahead and tested other yoke systems - some very expensive and found CH yoke even superior in the "feel" to the other hardware.Just my $0.02Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
September 19, 200322 yr I only just tried graphite for the first time a few days ago which lead me to making this post since it did not solve the problem. Thanks for letting me know about using silicon instead.
September 19, 200322 yr Commercial Member Graphite powder is petroleum based? I didn't know that. Are you sure? Just curious.thanks, Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack). September 19, 200322 yr Good advice on this thread. While we are on the subject of CH Products: has anyone ever taken apart the rudder pedals? Is the USB wiring soldered in place inside?I ask because I think I have damaged one of the wires. There are signs of physical damage to the external wiring and the left brake does not work. Everything else works fine.Any advice is appreciated before I attempt a repair.
September 19, 200322 yr Ok I solved the problem.I decided to open up the unit just to see how it ticked and figure out what really needed help. As a poster mentioned above the springs are not the source of the sticky yoke. Though a new set of springs would probably be a nice touch for an overhaul and CH Products will send them to you.Lubrication is the key and you can
September 19, 200322 yr Thanks for the tip! I need to clean/lube mine too...as it's not as smooth as it used to be. I'll be following your tips when I get around to doing it.

September 20, 200322 yr To make a long story short, when I opened my CH Pedals becuase of a left brake not working- all hell broke loose. Wires popping out, springs, bouncing about.. lost loads of money right there. I had to buy another pair of pedals... full price. I know to never open them again :+Jason :-wave
