September 22, 200322 yr Call me insane *:-* but I have embarked on a cross-Canada trip from Victoria to St Johns in the old Ford Trimotor. I love this plane.I just completed my first leg - Victoria to Princeton, BC.Hope I can stick with it. I can only give it a bit more than an hour a evening, so it'll definitely take some time.I may need some moral support in the future!Anyone out there who has done similar trips and is willing to give advice, please do.I'm going to record legs, time, fuel consumption. Gonna aim to visit all the major Canadian cities along the way, as well as smaller ones naturally. Any other suggestions?Adam
September 22, 200322 yr Good for you! Someone actually FLYING!!! Wow. I was wondering if all of us were so desperate for the max frames without moving any sliders, if we had forgotten what the purpose of the program is about.Suggestion to Microsoft. For the next release of Flight Sim, make a "systems engineer" edition that will simply consist of sliders, and a frame rate counter. They don't even have to include the flight sim, because most of these guys are so stuck on maxing out the frame counter and moving sliders that they wouldn't even notice.Have fun.. Sounds like a challenge.
September 22, 200322 yr Sounds like a lot of fun! Just one piece of advice: take screenshots and record them along with the other info about each leg in a Word document or something similar. Could be fun to look back over afterwards.
September 22, 200322 yr Thanks guys. Yes, I'll get FSScreen going and do a little flight history. I assume it works in COF as well.Adam
September 22, 200322 yr You got an idea there Will and a good point.Don't you just love that Ford Adam, and those ground loops are something else, Watch those landings.Steve A
September 22, 200322 yr I'm attempting an around the world flight starting from Toronto Canada in all sorts of different aircraft. So far I have made it to KLAX and have stalled! I need a long night to make the trip to the islands.I have been taking some screen shots and even take little side trips to smaller airports in smaller planes (did one from San Jose to San Luis Obispo in a Mooney Bravo). And took the Aero Commander for a trip down the California coast too.It was hair raising sharing the taxiway with a 747!See you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff
September 22, 200322 yr FSScreen will work in FS2002, will work in FS2004, it will work in Half Life, it will work in Counterstrike, it'll even work when you're just surfing the web.... :) Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
September 22, 200322 yr I dont know I did the defult england to australia race in the vickers vimmy my advice is make sure you have some good rubber bands and a G-Clamp with a padded clamps ... If your wondering I needed to do this as I dont have a co-pilot and on those 8hours legs I need to use the rubber bands to hold the joystick in place.Im still working up the guts to do the england to africa race...Havnet really flown the tri-moter yet so cant offer you advice on that... GL
September 22, 200322 yr AdamI did this in Canada in my FS2002 days. Whenever I flew into a new town I looked that place up on the web and tried to find out as much as I could as if I were visiting the place on vacation. I found it added a lot to the experience.I once flew into the Faroe Islands - they are near Iceland - when I used to have FS98. I looked up the web and sent an e-mail to someone I found there explaining that I was a virtual pilot. I got a reply from a guy in Denmark who was a flight simmer as well and we had quite a long chat :-)David
September 22, 200322 yr Hi thereI like Vector's idea of checking the place out. Lots of smaller airfields have website with a bit of info about the FBO and sometimes views of the airfield from a pilot`s perspective. What I do to expand FS is look up a real-world Flight Operation on the net and then simulate what that company might be doing, be it flightseeing, charter work or hauling freight, even occasionally resorting to flying (old) airliners. By looking at the real world it is easier to "engage" with the scenario and "suspend disbelief" still furtherCheersLungsPS Vector, I haven`t done another FS Sickday since you told me off - although it sounded like a lot of other people might!! hehe :-wink2
September 22, 200322 yr try going 'around' Canada. I did it once visiting all the Canadian Forces bases. Started in Winnipeg flew west to Comox, stopping along the way, then north to Inuvik. Across the Arctic, up to Alert, then down the east coast and back to Winnipeg. The other thing I did when I went north is also cross the North magnetic pole. That was an interesting happening when I did that. Watch your compass.
September 22, 200322 yr Some excellent ideas gentlemen. Unfortunately I have to go to work today! :( I'm looking forward to leg 2 this evening. :) Wouldn't want to make any predictions about where I'll end up but looking at Invermere as destination for leg 2. It's about 185 miles. Short legs are good, I find, as this plane likes to wander off course. I can stay on track for a while using rudder trim but it's still workI looked up Invermere on the net and bookmarked it. Great idea! Thanks, Adam
September 22, 200322 yr LungsI'd forgotton all about that :-)Glad to see no offence was taken.BTW, hope you're feeling better now :-lolDavid
September 22, 200322 yr My suggestion is to get an Atlas and follow a major road. I made a trip from Jacksonville to San Diego in 2k2 by following I-10. It was a lot of fun.Come to think of it, back in the days of Flight Simulator 2.0 for the Apple II I used to follow the road from Chicago to Champaign. :-)
