September 25, 200322 yr Checkout this tip. I am careful about benchmarking, and I seem to have picked up 3-5 fps. Before you flame, try it.
September 25, 200322 yr Author I tried it - no effect on my system.;)...Seriously, could you post the tip or a link to it? [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
September 25, 200322 yr Nice one Gridley. Here's the link: http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...mID21/6823.html
September 25, 200322 yr Author Thanks, Mate - Going to try that one for sure. I usually do a windows update once a month or so anyhow. As an aside, I found FSUIPC update to 3.08 a big improvement in my system too... [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
September 25, 200322 yr This update is meant to correct a problem with the USB drivers in XP.I could not get XP to recognize my Saitek USB Joystick. Once this update was installed the problem was quickly resolved. If it happens to improve FS9 performance that is an unintended consequence.Michael VerlinHistoric Jetliners Group
September 25, 200322 yr Author I have found through the years that MS's service packs and now Windows Update packages have numerous unintended consequences on FS performance by positively or negatively affecting system stability and integrity. The tweaking addiction knows no boundaries! September 25, 200322 yr It did not improve my frame rates, but I had a problem with my CH pedals because the calibration 'danced about' causing me midflight crashes with hard over right rudder. Now it is rock steady and moves only when required. Thanks again
September 25, 200322 yr Hello All,I did the MS update the other day on a newly installed version of XP pro . . in it was the files that were used by the poster, and yes, I found that my fps increased 4-6 with nothing else. And, still running my 1.8, while waiting for my new 3.2 MB to be returned from ASUS, (googlegear sent me a bad one), I can['t believe my luck was soo good. Best to allCaly
September 25, 200322 yr I will definetly give this a try but I got some Digital Graphics homework to complete first, but when I went to the windows update site I got this error message, I normally don't check the site cause I have the thing to auto update, this has happened before, didnt worry about it to much, a restart doest help, turned firewall off, even virus scan but still no luck even if I try again it still won't work, anyony have some idea's for me??http://members.shaw.ca/kstangrecki/help.jpg
September 26, 200322 yr I don't know why, but my system runs better with win XP Pro without Service Pack 1, for example....Ulisses
September 26, 200322 yr But I haven't downloaded it, I know I haven't I checked and before it used to say that there are no updates available, not give me an error.Ulisses: Sure my system ran super fast when I had no updates installed but there where so many holes in windows you would have to be nuts to use it unless of course you weren't connected to the net, but still, I have some games that require SP1 to be installed.
September 26, 200322 yr Have to admit I didn't believe it when I read it. I downloaded the Windows update, and IT REALLY INCREASED MY FPS.....SIGNIFICANTLY.I know that flying the Commander out of KSEA with clouds and the VC can lower my FPS into the low teens (9800pro128 + 2.8 gig Dell 8250 with 1024RDRAM). After installing the Windows update, I didn't drop more that 2 or 3 frames below my 25FPS lock. Wow...what a pleasure. The smoothness and fluidity were truly there. I sure hope it's not a fluke, but this looks like the "real deal". Thank you so much for the suggestion. I've never seen something not directly related to the sim or the video drivers have this much of an effect. I still don't believe it, but it sure seems to work. Stan (crossing my fingers as I write this!)
September 26, 200322 yr Hi all.The FPS increase may be due to a difference in how often, or in what manner, the USB connection is polled. But something this underscores:FS2004 is very system dependant. All elements from hardware to software can make a difference in the sim.Dick
