October 29, 201015 yr I am reloading FSX and all my addons since switching to Windows 7. I have seen several times to install FSX in its own folder. The only I could figure out how to do that is let it install in the Program Files (x86) folder then move the entire folder to a folder on C: root. I tried to then install the PMDG 747 but it couldn't find the new folder, so I moved it back to the (x86) place and install the PMDG 747, PMDG MD11 and the PMDG JS41. Afterward, I moved the entire Program Files (x86) Microsoft Games folder to C:\FSX folder. Now the load manager for both the 747 and MD11 does not function. It initally comes up but then immediately window says there is a problem and tries to fix it, then it closes the program down. I can certainly understand having FSX run from outside the Program Files (x86) folder, but what am I doing wrong? If someone could give me some advice I would sure appreciate it.Thanks,Ron Musick Ron Musick, PP-ASEL-IA AOPA # 00642403
October 29, 201015 yr What you just did is going to cause a world of trouble for you. You must install the program where you want it to be. Installing it one place, then moving it to another essentially breaks the installation, your registry things FSX is one place, but you have moved it to another. That is why your load managers dont work.Install the program where you want it, then for the love of God do not move the files anywhere. If you want it moved, you have to uninstall it, then reinstall it, that is the only way to get the program to work. And this is not just an FSX thing mind you, this is a Windows thing, this is how computers work.Fresh install FSX and your addons to something like C:\FSX (you are definately on the right track keeping it out of the default Program Files folder), and you should be fine. October 29, 201015 yr Author When installing FSX Deluxe, I don't believe I was given the option to dictate the place where it installed; it just installed to the default Program Files (x86). I was intentionally looking for a point in the install procedure so that I could direct it to another place. Did I just miss it?Ron Musick Ron Musick, PP-ASEL-IA AOPA # 00642403

October 29, 201015 yr Commercial Member Ron did you get the SSD?(I missed the customize button when I did it too, lol) Noah Bryant
October 29, 201015 yr I ALWAYS miss the customize button myself when I reinstall FSX and I always have to uninstall and reinstall to the correct location again lol. My system drive is only 60 gigs, I cant really put FSX there, as my FSX folder is currently bigger than 60 gigs alone:P
October 29, 201015 yr Commercial Member Ron-All of our existing installers are Win7 capable. You shouldn't have to go through any gyrations at all whilst installing our products.I think you'll find Win7 to be a big boost for FSX. I've been on Win7 for a year and absolutely love the platform.By the by: Any relation to the famous Captain Edwin Musick of Pan American World Airways flying boat fame?Yours is not a common last name- made me wonder. October 29, 201015 yr Author Hi Robert,I'm not aware of any relation to Edwin Musick, but you are correct, the Musick name is a bit uncommon; I'll look into it.Noah: I decided to wait a little longer on the SSD. I bought another velociraptor for the time being.Thank you all for your help. I certainly appreciate any advise anyone wishes to offer.Ron Musick Ron Musick, PP-ASEL-IA AOPA # 00642403
October 29, 201015 yr Once you had moved the original installation you could have reset the registry using the Registry Repair Tool at http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library . Once you have started adding items it is best to leave it where it is (except the program files folder can cause problems). William Hall
