October 8, 200322 yr How is this good news? The only entry related to fs9 is: "Setting the game Flight Simulator 2004 to display at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 followed by starting a new flight results in the menu being flipped just before the new flight is about to begin." What the (^)& is that? I just want to be able to read a flight lesson or chart or help entry without having to go to windowed mode. This sounds potentially bogus. No comment about flashing (which I don't care about but others here do) and no comment about smeared text, which I think stinks. Too bad the card is so darn sweet!!sjKEWR3.2 ghz p4, Intel 875P-based, 800FSB MoboATI 9800Pro 256kb1Gb RAM (512x2)Mits. 21" CRTetc.
October 8, 200322 yr Looks to me like they either haven't fixed the problems or haven't documented the fixes. October 8, 200322 yr It's not listed anymore in Known Issues; so I guess I'd interpret that statement as there still being a problem running 1024x768 and 1280x1024; but not at other resolutions such as 1600x1200. I'll wait for the Omega drivers anyway. They're usually out a few days after the Cats are released.
October 8, 200322 yr They are now out:http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 8, 200322 yr Commercial Member Man, this is starting to get to me! First ATI lists the menu flashing bug as fixed (they have for weeks now), then they release a new driver set that as near as I can tell does NOT fix the problem, now they don't list the problem as fixed anymore in their knowledge base. That's dirty pool. And yes, I've downloaded and installed the 3.8 drivers. What's it going to take for ATI to fix this, I wonder? It's all getting quite frustrating. October 8, 200322 yr Hi Gosta. This issue was promised ,in the release notes of Catalyst 3.7, to be solved , with the next Cat 3.8, and now they say that it
October 8, 200322 yr Commercial Member In looking at another KB issue on their site, I see that you may be right about the "Issue Resolved" button. However, it's by far the most brain-dead way of doing things I've seen in a long while. What user wouldn't click a button that says "Issue Resolved" when a bug is driving them nuts? I hope that it isn't true that they pay less attention to the problem as more click it, because it's just bad information design and no reflection on any resolution they've achieved. Besides, they listed the original bug on the KB, so they should know if they've fixed it, don't you think? Not mad at you of course, but I'm a little steamed at ATI at the moment. October 8, 200322 yr <>Yep<<...but I'm a little steamed at ATI at the moment.>>And MS, too. They're the ones who created the problem and are leaving the solution to someone else (ATI).
October 8, 200322 yr Okay - I went to the linked site. I downloaded file named wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-94030917m-011434c.exe (25.3MB)Is that it? The newest driver for my Radeon Pro 128?The ATI Web site just said it was for the Radeon Family. It said nothing about it being for Radeon 9800 or Radeon 9800 Pro 128. Why do they do that.btw - How can I save the driver that is presently on my system? (Just in case the new one is a bomb or I completely screw up the installation of the new driver, which knowing my computer abilities, is the most likely thing that will happen.)Thanks,DonaldS

October 8, 200322 yr Hi Bill,I completely agree. I sent them an e-mail, explaining that by clicking on the button, I expected to find a patch, or instructions on how to fix it. Hopefully they listened - I notice the button is now gone from that infobase page...Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
October 8, 200322 yr Hi there, unfortunately, the flickering menus have not been resolved. What has been resolved is "Setting the game Flight Simulator 2004 to display at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 followed by starting a new flight results in the menu being flipped just before the new flight is about to begin." This is an issue I never had, but then I'm not running that resolution :).As to anti-aliasing, the Radeons do not support anti-aliasing of alpha textures, which in turn could explain the performance difference between ATI and nVidia. The GF FX 5900 Ultra 128 MB is definitely a good card, but there have been some issues with nVidia and FS2004 as well. I can't remember, what exactly, and if they've been fixed, but if you do a search on the forums, you'll find it.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
