October 13, 200322 yr GREAT !!!!!!!! Perfect !Nice driver, great card, thanks for the sharing it...Ulisses
October 13, 200322 yr Well the flickering is gone. Cant tell if its better or worse FPS but the flickering is gone. Hopefully 3.9 gets it all together in one shot.
October 13, 200322 yr Just when I think I'll take the plunge and try to figure out how to remove the old Radeon driver first - with a "cleaner" that I know nothing about, and bingo! up pops another issue. SOFTMODE. Now what the heck is that?DonaldS
October 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member I really, really want this new release (Omega) to work right, but I'm having the same problem with them that I had with previous Omega versions. I uninstalled both the ATI drivers and the ATI control panel and rebooted before installing the Omegas, but after they're all done I can't seem to launch their control panel. I go into the display properties and click "Advanced" and there the whole thing hangs... it's been half an hour now and no errors or anything else, just no control panel. This is more than a little problem because I don't seem to have AA in FS2004 with the default Omega setup and I need to force it. The plus side is that these drivers seem to have fixed the flashing problem, but out of the box they look like garbage on my system, so I need to get into the control panel to set 'em right. Can anyone offer insight? thanks, Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack). October 13, 200322 yr "...up pops another issue."LOL The nature of the beast, Donald. The SoftMod is a driver tweak that is claimed to turn some of the 9XXX cards into their "bigger" brothers. Some think it's really cool, others aren't convinced that it does anything to enhance performance. Omega stated today that the SoftMod in this latest iteration of drivers (2496) might cause computer freezes and black screens. If you wish to try a set of Omega drivers, during the install you will be questioned about enabling the SoftMod. One of your choices is to decline.Cheers,
October 13, 200322 yr I have never used Omega drivers. Why should they be better than the ATI drivers, ie better than the company that makes the card itself? How can one be sure they are safe?Just asking as a newbieGreg Greg Clark
October 13, 200322 yr The guy who creates these drivers is not altering the drivers themselves. (As a matter of fact he was, a few months back, threatened with a lawsuit from Nvidia, because they thought he was reverse engineering and altering the drivers. When he explained that that was not what he was doing the whole thing went away.) He is simply, through things like registry entries, etc, tweaking the drivers to maximize the performance....That''s why he notes that you should uninstall your old driver's control panel and not use other tweakers, these things would likely undo what his work does. Or that's how I understand it anyway....I'm not a tech-head.Regardless, I've been comparing the Omega to the official drivers each time a new version of each is released for about a year, and I almost have always gone with the Omega drivers.
October 13, 200322 yr Bill, over at rage3d.com forums they have a way to completely uninstall and clean the system out of the old drivers. Its the only other thing I can think of for you to try. That forum may have some guru's hanging around that maybe of more help.
October 13, 200322 yr spotlope wrote:"I uninstalled both the ATI drivers and the ATI control panel and rebooted before installing the Omegas, but after they're all done I can't seem to launch their control panel."Bill, Omega recommends that you uninstall the ATI Control Panel, DO NOT REBOOT, install the Omega's, reboot.Stay with it... the 2496 drivers work well, as does the Omega Control Panel.Good luck,
October 13, 200322 yr WOW !! I had no idea these leaked drivers would fix our screen flickers when I posted. :-)I learned of the driver from a post in the Lock-On forum at ubi.com and figured I should pass it on here at avsim. I just got around to installing the drivers an hour ago and now the alt-menu, kneeboard and GPS are flicker free. Thanks go out to who ever leaked them. :-)Steve
October 13, 200322 yr When you all uninstall your ATI drivers, if you are not using this little program, you should give it a try. It has worked great for me. Here is the link. http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/It is very easy to use.Ron
October 18, 200322 yr I'm wondering if everyone here noticed improved FPS performance with these omega drivers? I have been running them for about a week or so now and I'm just not sure if it seems like my FPS have gone down despite the flickering going away.I rather have flickering and higher FPS.Let me know if any of you have seen your FPS go down. I may load the ATI drivers tomorrow and test this out on my system.Ahh more weekend fun, LOL.. heres to stopping the tweaking of your system and just FLYING to improve that center line landing! :-)
October 18, 200322 yr A big improvement for me, not really in fps but it all seems smoother and at last no flicker!...I went straight from the Omega version of the 3.6's to these though so maybe that's itRegardsDave
