Sorry not a PMDG Q but need help!

Apologies as this is not directly related to PMDG but your all a smart bunch of guy's and I need some help. I need to move my entire flightsim setup to another country, ideally I need a big crate and a good company that will move it from London to Bahrain in the middle east by air. The setup includes three large monitors, 3 computers all my flight controls and hardware and probably the heaviest part is My Subwoofers and speakers. I've looked around online but they all seem to offer small boxes or parcel delivery. Has anyone else done this before? Thanks and sorry, mods feel free to move if I have overstepped the line. Cheers

Sorry, i cant answer your question but i must say i dont think you have over stepped the line!Although this is a pmdg forum, my opinion your asking the people who spend a lot of time on pmdg forums.I think your question on here is both valid and reasonable.as you say

Given recent events, your timing on this is probably terrible. But, can't you just put it in the boxes it came in? If you don't have liquid cooling, I would think that you might get a couple loose wires and the like in transit, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Thanks Doug, I don't think the recent events out of Yeman are going to put a halt to safe shipment of Computers ;) if that's the case then we're all screwed. Let's not get paranoid or political, I'm wondering if any simmers have done the same, or could recommend a company, that flies out of the UK, it's a minefield on the Web so I would prefer to use a company that comes recommended. Thanks

Heh I did that, when I've moved from Canada to Romania, we had to ship all our stuff overseas. What I suggest you is to ship via container if you're bringing more than just your pc. If not, try putting your entire PC in the case box, the monitor in its box, etc, etc. You could then pack up all those boxes into one large box.As for a company, I'm not sure what to recommend you, doesn't FedEx handle those things? You could also try sea shipping but I don't know any company in that domain.

Thanks loan,I think only TNT and DHL fly to Bahrain, there websites don't seem to be much help it only talks about parcels, will give them a call. What I really want is big box that I can put everything in and mark FRAGILE, I will be taking the hard drives out and padding the box with as much clothes duvets bubble wrap or whatever. The reason i'm asking here is a friend told me some companies charge on volume rather then weight, that would be perfect for me, however I cant see any companies online that do that. Thanks again.

Rob, I wasn't actually trying to be political. I was partly trying to make some light of the situation given that you are asking how to ship computer equipment to the middle east right after such shipments caused problems which is what I would classically call bad timing. But, I was also somewhat serious in that you would likely want to take some care in packaging the equipment back into the original packaging and otherwise providing physical padding/protection to the shipments. (I've shipped lots of computers and parts thereof via air, using the original box from the case. Never had any problems other than the few loose items I noted above.) Your efforts to carefully pack and protect your equipment could be undermined (thus resulting in more likely damage), if there are changes to regulations that require phyiscal inspections of such packages. Not a political comment on the inspections themselves or anything like that, but rather an actual concern that fall-out from the events might result in changes in proceedures where advice (like that you've received from me and the others), might be undone by very new/upcoming procedures.

Thanks guy's I found this company http://www.packsend.co.uk/packandsend_it.php and I'm looking at a couple of others like http://www.voovit.com as a cheaper option. And thanks for your advice Doug, I did know you where kidding hence the wink in my post. The paraniod & political bit was aimed at preventing a thread drift. (you know that can happen quite easily on forums)Cheers

Bahrain definitely does not = Yemen though. Bahrain is among the more liberalized countries in that region and there's never been a terrorism problem there as far as I know.

True enough. I'm just wouldn't be surprised if international air freight becomes more of a PITA in the mid-term future, generally speaking.

Not directly related to air freight, but if possible, make a back up of your data.I had my PC shipped once and it arrived with a broken HDD. It might also be a good idea to remove some components, if needed. Things like an überheavy CPU cooler come to mind.

I don't know if this really helps you at all, but look under the scetion "Cargo Airlines" in the link provided. There are several airlines, I don't know if you can ship from London though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki?search=Bahrain+airportOff topic, what part of London do you live in? I used to be in the Docklands. Canary Wharf area to be exact. I miss taking the DLR out to London City Airport, and watching the stream of planes come in so low over the buildings.

Used to work in Canary Wharf, I really like it around there. Probably spent too much time looking out the window at London City Airport :)I'm in South East London, Crystal Palace, very near to the two large towers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_transmitting_station I've always wondered if a VOR or GPS Fix is nearby.
