November 20, 201015 yr Started with a fresh Windows 7 (64 bit) install, Popped in my FSX install DVD and all was well, till I got to the second DVD. Bang, the "won't recognize disc 2 issue". Changed DVD drives, same thing. Manually deleted the files and tried again, same thing. Did some reasearch on the problem and read that quite a few beat this problem by copying the files to a folder on the hard drive and running the install from there (the folder containing the files to be deleted after a sucessful install). Uninstalled. Did that and, yep same issue. Did a search on this "can't load DLL:GameuxInstallHelper" problem and found very little. The whole install runs to the very end and this thing pops up. So with the whole afternoon and most of the evening shot and still no FSX on my hard drive, I am out of ideas and am ready to toss in the towel. As a side note I installed FSX on an older machine using these same discs. Also, do not have any Nero software in my new setup. Guess this is more of a rant than anything else. Totally flustered at this point. Regards, Joe Esposito
November 20, 201015 yr You could try to move over your old DVD player to the new computer and see if that helps. If it doesnt I'm guessing that the CDs are damaged somehow
November 20, 201015 yr If it's a reinstall you are doing, a few things that I've found can screw it up out of the several times I've reinstalled FSX include: not uninstalling the service packs, the MSI version you have not working well with the FSX installation program, the dot net framework version you have not liking things. Also, clearing out any remnants of FS from the local folder via regedit and checking the control panel software removal options for anything related to FS are worth investigating. Once I even found that not installing the software updates for the motherboard that came on a DVD with that motherboard was preventing FSX installing after I reinstalled the operating system when formatting a hard drive to get rid of a virus. Bizarre, but it seems that was the issue on one occasion. It might of course be none of those things, but one or two of them might give you a clue to get you on the right track investigation-wise in solving the mystery.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

November 20, 201015 yr Hi Joe,Have you read and tried the following yet?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968365Might be worth a shot. Follow the instructions for Vista they will pertain to Win 7 as well. I've also read that the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility cleared this problem as well although the utility is no longer available from Microsoft.Get the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility here: http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.htmlRegards,Bob
November 20, 201015 yr Been there myself. Try downloading windows installer cleanup utility, install it and run it. Delete fsx entries that come up and reinstall FSX. It should do the trick. It worked for me.Vic

November 20, 201015 yr Another solution:Make a folder named "FSX" on your desktop.Copy the content of both discs to that folder, run the installer from there... Delete the folder afterwards.

November 20, 201015 yr Just for information: Yeah - they pulled it, but I was still able to download and run it from the other site, Vaughan. It's available from here as well as MajorGeeks:http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility-Download-18442.htmlwith some expansion of what it does and doesn't do here:-http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7programs/thread/164444db-1254-4181-b585-389918e7a286I tried a few items in its list, and all were ok after it "removed" them, except iTunes. Checking further all that was broken was the shortcut. No big deal. I also picked up a link to this MS system maintenance program suite which may find/fix a number of issues, along with a link to the bigger "FixIT" website. http://support.microsoft.com/fixit and its parent: https://fixit.support.microsoft.com/reporting/ i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
