Which flight planner

Featured Replies

I have just bought some credits at Navigraph, mainly for FMS data, but I am considering putting some credits into a couple of routes just to see what they look like. Are Navigraphs routes any better than FS Commander, FSBuild or any other payware flight planner? Which flight planner do you guys use?Anakletor

HI ThereI fly mostly with a virtual airline - Pacific Airways whch covers most areas of the globe including Europe in my case. I use Navigraph for FMS data and airport charts and VR Route for seeking routes and recognised waypoints. It costs a small amount if I recall correctly but it works well and produces amongst other things a flight log sheet and an FSX loadable flight plan.Rgds - Roger

I've been using FSC forever. Updatable via navigraph. Currently using V8.6. I'm not to hyped up about their new version to spend money to upgrade it.

If i'm flying in the US it's Flightaware, otherwise i'll use Routefinder. I then copy the route and paste it straight into the flight string box of FSC 8.6.

I have been using FSBuild for years, as above, search for a route using Flightaware then copy/paste. Input AVG winds aloft, updatable AIRAC etc and priced at 60% of FSC 9.0. Add Aivlasoft EFB to the bag and now you are in for a treat.I found that I was wasting my money paying for the Navigraph charts and now only purchase the yearly FMS data.FSC however supports online flying showing manned controlled airspace if you are in to that. The FSBuild UI looks a little dated but it does the job, I am amazed at how good EFB as a resource is as it ties in ground, departure, enroute and arrival info into its map. There is a great freeware addon similar to EFB which is called Plan-G which uses google map, terrain, satellite and hybrid displays to aid in your progress.Good luck in your search.

FSBuild for me.It exports flight plans for for all the software & payware aircraft I use including PMDG, Level-D, FSAcars, Squawkbox, etc. and does a better job of determining airways than FSCommander does.

I am very glad that I updetd to FSC 9.0 because I can now display flight plans and the current aircraft position on google earth. This is really very nice! :(

If I'm in the mood to do things 'properly', I use FS Build, whereas if I'm just after a quick 'blast', I'll happily use the default FS flight planner, which is not as bad as some would have you believe if you are prepared to manually tweak the plans it generates a bit.As you probably know, Ernie Alston is the messiah when it comes to making FS into something more realistic, but having said that, FS Build is probably not for everyone and that's because it's more like a real-world flight planner than an intuitive graphic experience which a casual simmer might perhaps prefer. Nevertheless, if you want realism and flexibility, then there is very little doubt that FS Build will give a hardcore simmer exactly what they are looking for.If you want something that is a bit more intuitive and graphical, Flight Sim Commander might be a better choice, and to be fair, it does have its merits too.Al
