Utility to measure min, max, avg fps?

Featured Replies

I've seen many many posts where min, max and avg fps are quoted for fsx but can find nothing telling me how to obtain these figures?I believe in fs9 it was possible from within the program....is the same true of fsx or do I need an external utility to obtain these figures?

In Fs9 you had to change some entries in the Fs9.cfg. This maybe could also be done with the FSX.cfg, but I´m not sure. Search after an member called "Bojote", he´s the master of the FSX.cfg, he can answer this question.

Best regards, Steffen

It's possible from within the sim.Open your FSX.CFG file and look for the [TextInfo.x] sections. Add the item "AverageFrameRate=x,y" under the section of your choice and then you will see the average framerate when using Shift-z from within the sim.For example my "TextInfo.1" looks like this:[TextInfo.1] FrameRate=1,1LockedFrameRate=1,2AverageFrameRate=2,1When I select Shift-z once, I get min/max/average frame rates along with some other framerate info.Hope this helps.Dave

Thanks Dave, that does seem to do the trick although I'm confused as to why the min rate keeps changing up and down every 10-15secs? Also, anyone know what the "V %" is that get displayed?

It's the frame rate variance. Essentially, the higher the number, the more stutters you'll have. You can either lock fps in-game, or try the external fps limiter if encountering stutters.

Hit shift z until it cycles to off. You'll enjoy FSX so much more when you stop worrying about FPS...:(

Agreed. worrying about FPS is a waste of time. The shift-z display actually eats up some frame rates also. You can see your average FPS info for the flight session from the fsuipc.log if you are running it.

Sorry, but without the use of a fps counter how do people help determine the effect of various tweaks, hardware upgrades or slider settings other than their perceived opinions or the "placebo" effect? I was not asking for peoples opinions on whether I should use it or not, I was merely asking HOW it can be implemented if one so wishes......thanks to those who have given feedback in that respect and thanks to Daveo for his suggestion of using fsuipc.log......nobody else had mentioned thatI agree that fps is not what we should be striving for in FSX but in order to assist in determing the effect of changes, it surely has it's place?!?
