Who doesn't use Active Camera 2004?

interesting responses, I think that when you purchase something for FS, you are investing in the developer as much as the product. Some developers have been around here since the early days, and paid there dues with tons of free add ons. Some have sprouted up like weeds in my wife's flower bed, and have rarely, if ever released a free product. When you shell out your hard earned money, you should consider WHO is getting it as much as WHAT your getting. It's as much about Character as quality to me. When ACP popped up in the library last year, the community was very helpful in working out all the bugs and suggesting new directions. What happened in return was a lot like having a rug ripped out beneath their feet, hence the animosity. If the developers had offered a free limited module, one that could take advantage of say, mouse zooming and panning. Instead of one that annoyingly pops up a 'buy me' screen, the fence sitters may have felt 'obligated' to invest in the product. As it sits, i dont feel like the developers have the long sightedness to deserve my 15$, unless i missed the fact that they are still contibuting back to the community they profit from.it is a fine product however.joe

Interesting responses indeed. Everyone's opinion on price is valid, but I suspect that no conclusion can be drawn; at least none beyond the economic realities as described by Jimmy & Loubetty. Perception of value is totally subjective. (For example, is a Mercedes Benz worth $100,000? it depends entirely on your point of view). What can be drawn from this thread is that those who have opted to buy the product are all enthusiastic. No buyers remorse at all. That's got to be a good sign.LPXOPS: Wolfgang, "For kids who fly in arcade view only & have never been in a real airplane, it's irrellevant" (yeah, i know, too many l's)I apologise if this comment was ambiguous. I did not intend to imply that all simmers who fly in 2d view are kids; rather that the feeling of motion replicated in VC mode would likely appeal to people who fly or at least travel in real aircraft.

It works, Serge. Thanks again! BTW: I got an email from you and (probably by hitting a wrong key or button) I lost it. Would you mind sending me a copy please?Jaap Verduijn.

PayPal charges 1% fee, which is around 0.05$, and withdrawing is free.

Hi Joe, I'm not sure about the product you are referring to, but the story of a free program for which the entire community was helpful in working out all the bugs and suggesting new directions, and after, in return was a lot like having a rug ripped out beneath their feet, hence the animosity, reminds me the story of FSUIPC... You don't happened not to have purchased FSUIPC neither don't you?

While I don't use the mouse zooming feature, all the other features worked fine when I installed it and stayed in the KSEA area for free in FS9, I purchased on the merit of what I had from FS2002, simming wasn't the same without it for me. I personally don't care if a person has given to the community or not if it is payware, I care if I get good support and I have from Serge and company.I spent over $15 today for lunch, gas for my Camry and the dry cleaners, what does it get me, some energy, fuel for my vehicle and clean clothes for work for a few days. I use ACP everytime I am in FS9 and it has been out how long? I think I got a good investment. I agree with Lou, stop comparing the cost of an addon to the cost of the sim, makes no sense, but I guess it is a way to justify not getting it to yourself. What it boils down to is whether you use the product or not, obviously some don't use the features it offers. If you are a 2D panel person and fly the big houses with wings, you probably won't get as much out of it as someone who is VFR 99% of the time and rarely over 5000 ft.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

That's the difference. I love VC, and I love the head latency feature with turns and ground roll and turbulence.sg

Joe,I programmed freewares in the early days.FS 5 : The first was an enhanced Meigs scenery for FS5 (as far as I remember the add-on reached the 1800 downloads on Compuserve, which was a lot 10 years ago).FS 5 and FSW95 : Then I programmed "complex" 3D airports objects with the old SCASM compiler (VOR, Localizer, glide, VHF antennas) .These objects were much used in many freeware sceneries after a conversion to API format (even in payware sceneries without my authorization). I also designed freeware a/c sounds for both FS5 and FS6.FS2000 : at the end of this MSFS version Guillaume Darier, Andy Newman and I programmed the first Active Camera (simply a fly by).FS2002 : Guillaume and I developped Active Camera 1.0. Then we enhanced the features to have Active Camera Pro. So far nobody in the community was helpful in working out bugs (let say it was practically bug free). You are right Joe, we got excellent feedback from users and we responded to their interesting suggestions/requests.In February 2003 we programmed a FS2004 version of AC from scratch (we were lucky to be part of the FS9 beta group). In June we converted the new features of the upcoming 2004 version to FS2002 (still freeware). At the release there was one bug that escaped us (cycling between views was not reliable). We corrected this in the next days.FS2004 : AC became payware. Nevertheless we recently programmed a small freeware utility for Meljet 777 V2. We considered it was a non sense that users of this great popular freeware aircraft must purchase AC2004 in order to discover easily the nice Meljet 777 cabin views. So Meljet 777 V2 users will be able to load up to 10 view presets (cabin and wing views). The parameters have been hard coded and will not be editable. Beta testing is ending and we will release this utility soon.Thank you for considering the module is fine. Greatly appreciated.Regards,

Thanks Michael. You couldn't have said it better. It costs me almost $20 to fill my Camry's tank today and I'll have to do it all over next week. I never expected this many responses from my original post and I never expected $15 to be a big deal. It seems that some folks expect that a product, if it is ever free..shall always remain free forever into the future. But then again, probably half the people in these forums aren't old enough to drive yet. Anyways, back to the cessna for some vfr flying on my lowly Celeron 533. Take Care. P.S. Opps... and of course, thanks serge for the great product and great customer service. Greg in KAVL
