Alternative to ATC and FO voice control

Featured Replies

Hi guys!I am enjoying my PMDG J41 a lot. I have read the great tutorial like 4 times. Very informative. My goal is to start flying Vatsim soon. I just want to become more proficient at ATC interaction. I bought a copy of FS2Crew for my Jetstream and though it surely is a nice addon it doesn't really add any extra realism to the simulation. Not for me at least. The FO behaves so "robotically". I have the feeling that I have to say the right commands at the right time in order to get him to react. If I forget to set the lights he will not set power in takeoff and such things. I wish he could at least say "Captain, shouldn't we set the lights on?". The other big letdown is the lack of interaction between FO and ATC. That is utterly unrealistic. Well, many people are happy with FS2Crew, so I guess it is a good addon, just not for me.I am looking for some alternative to the default ATC, preferably with voice interaction. I have RC4 which I find very realistic. I don't care about the quality of the voices, since as I said I just want to practice the mechanics of IFR flying and interaction with ATC. RC4 seems to follow IRC rules very nicely. I have been looking at SuperATC. It would let me talk to RC4 and that is great. It just lacks FO. I would have to do all the job myself, which again is not very realistic. I have taken a look at VoxATC. It is an integrated pack with both voice ATC and a FO who also would talk to ATC (am I right?). I've heard it has its own AI traffic. I use MyTraffic and I am happy with it, but I wouldn't mind using some other AI traffic if it is good enough.There might be other solutions out there that I am not aware of. I would like to hear of your experiences. If nothing better I will just jump into Vatsim and give up all this ATC mess.I don't mean to sound frustrated. Just a little bit confused :)Sorry for my poor english and thank you for any responses!(I have all respect for FS2Crew developers. I know it is a nice product, but maybe not for everyone)

Take a look at Multi Crew Experience.http://www.multicrewxp.com/

Hi - I recommend that you read the attached two document links provided by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. They are quite digestible. When I was learning this stuff I created a R/T 'Flight' in an MS Word table and got a friend to do the ATC whilst I did the A/C Commander bit. We did it sitting in armchairs with a cup of coffee.The dialogue is generally good for most parts of the world and is certainly the correct format that VATSIM controllers would expect.Good luck - RogerCAP 413 Supp 1CAP 413 Supp 3

Thanks for responses, guys! I am taking a look at MCE now. Those documents look great. They will come handy when training for Vatsim. Warming up my printer ... :)

I think you should just jump on vatsim. 99% of the controllers are kind and will help direct you. What you can do for starters (other than reading the PRC: http://www.vatsim.net/prc/) is log on AT THE GATE or PARKING SPOT (never on a runway or taxiway) and select a busy airport with traffic. Tune in the radio and just LISTEN for a while.If you need to find a busy airport with traffic just use VatSpy:http://www.metacraft.com/VATSpy/Here's a generalized dialogue on vatsim (assuming the airport is fully staffed with clearance, ground, tower, departure etc)"Atlanta clearance, N8068C, FBO with information alpha, IFR to Orlando""N8068C, ATL clearance, cleared to....."{read back clearance then call ground for taxi}"Atl gnd, n8068c ready for taxi from ga ramp/fbo/gate etc""8068c, ry 26r, taxi via A"{readback taxi route and taxi - at larger airports you just go to tower freq or they'll tell you monitor tower xxx.xx}"ATL tower, N8068C ready for departure RY 26R""N8068C, ATL tower, turn right heading 290/fly XYZ RNAV departure/DP/runway heading etc, ry 26r cleared for takeoff"{readback and takeoff}"N8068C contact departure"{readback and contact departure - it's really easy you just readback what they say and do it}

I have read the review of MCE done here at AVSIM. It is a bit aged, from april 2009. The reviewer seems to be very impressed by the product. There is only one thing that worries me. He says that the turboprops do not feature extensive support. Is that still the case or have they implemented better support in later versions?edit: I just saw your post Ryan. I will definitely do that. Listening to others might be the best way to getting used to the ATC jargon.

It seems like MCE does not handle complex addon aircrafts that well. I think Jetstream J41 is PMDGs most complex aircrafts to date. That makes me a little bit sceptic about MCE. Besides there is so little information on the web about this product. No official forum. Just a few videos on youtube, which I presume are uploaded by the FS++ developers. It is free to try though, so I might give it a try.

I'm a MCE/RC4 user and I love it. I use MCE with my PMDG 747 and it works great. It really is a nice program and you can create your own voice macros if need be. The support is by far the best of any program I've bought. RC4 must have different versions cause my voices sound great.

I second ohsirus's comment about MCE support - it is second to none IMO. You just email their support id and it is extremely rare not to get a response in 24 hours. Most times it's a lot quicker. And that's not just existing customers - if you have a question, drop them a line and you will find them very helpful. And of course there's the free demo.There is also an unofficial forum athttp://rainbird.heavenforum.com/forum.htmbut it's not used much, mainly I think because the direct one-on-one support is so good.
