Looking at a new computer

Looking forward to your findings Edmundo. I am planning to get pretty much the same setup as you just ordered. Added I will include 4Gb more of RAM and probably a SSD to run Windows from. I am saving up the money at the moment.. I expect to get around to building in a month or 2-3.

What are you referring to with your comment regarding OCZ? Can you post some more information on that?
I've never owned OCZ personally, but I've seen enough headaches and bad reviews of OCZ products that I've decided never to buy anything made by them. The fact is that there are tons of reputable brands that make great products for equivalent cost, so why buy the brand you read nothing but complaints about?

Thanks guys! Really one reason why I posted this thread. To get some advice from more experience people than me. I will probably end up buying some of this stuff on newegg because of no tax and low shipping/free but it looks like it might be better for me to go get the cpu at microcenter which I didn't even know I had here in Colorado.

I don't know how close you are to Micro Center, but they'll have the processors on Sunday. $179.99 for the 2500K in-store, $279.99 for the 2600K in-store. I think I'm going to be there Sunday morning when they open. haha Might not be able to get everything I need, but I'll definitely be picking up the 2500K for that price.EDIT: I'm blind, I see the pricing was posted earlier.

Sweet, I probably will to! I am probably 20 minute drive to the heart of denver. Do you live in Denver, or were you saying you were going to Microcenter in another part of the world?

I too plan on a new p56 setup. Was wondering of anybody understands the difference between the I5 2500k and the I7 2600K?

Looks like a few minor differences. Basically, a difference of hyperthreading and stock speedshttp://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/Intel_i7_2600K_i5_2500K/

The i5-2500k has 2MB less cache and no hyperthreading. Stock speeds won't matter unless you don't overclock... which would be a shame. I really don't know whether or not i7-2600k will provide much more benefit to FSX than the i5-2500k. I'm going with i7-2600k though.

So am I. Plus I have seen someone get the 2600K up to 5ghz so I probably could get it to 4 safely.

I believe both the 2500k and the 2600k should get 4.5 safely. It's not until 4.8ish that people are really hitting voltage walls.

Anything after 4ghz is really gravy. If you can hit 4, then you are starting to get into good fluidity and FPS territory with even the most demanding addons like REX and UT2.

No it isn't? The 2600k can clock to 4.6 easily on air. Reports have had it at 5GHz on air, but will a fair bit of voltage tweaking. That's well past 4.
