January 4, 201115 yr I am a pretty tech savy person but I just wanted to have this looked over by some one else to make sure its all good. I am thinking about buying and building my first computer and here is what I am looking at. Let me know if anything is not compatible with something or if I could get a better deal by upgrading. I am on a 1000 max but 800$ budget right now(college student :))CPU/MOBO Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95W ASUS P7P55Dhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.580754GPU ASUS GTX460http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121413PSU 600Watt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341039RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227582DVD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118031Let me know if I should change anything or add anything. January 4, 201115 yr I'm not sure what you already own from that list, nor am I aware of your knowledge of computers. If you are building this from scratch I would recommend going with a Sandy Bridge processor. They are supposed to be released on the 9th, but I've been seeing rumors of them being released the 4th... tomorrow. If you're on a budget, go with the i5-2500k. Of course you will need a socket 1155 motherboard as well. Consider Gigabyte P67A-UD4, perhaps. LGA 1156 is now a dead socket. January 4, 201115 yr Author I own none of it. I am building from scratch and it would be nice to keep it under $800(excluding monitor speakers keyboard and mouse)Only thing about buying these "new" processors is that I am sure they are going to be more expensive and since I am looking for a good fsx machine it would be nice for a good cpu that doesn't blow my budget. At least I won't be buying this stuff until next week at the earliest.
January 4, 201115 yr Actually, the new sandy bridge processors are going fairly cheap, with the most expensive model being around $350. I would wait a week or so, and watch the forums. Soon, people here will have the new processors and will give us info on how well they perform in FSX.
January 4, 201115 yr Either way ... everything will be cheaper...on the 9th. Except those dang extreme chips they seem to hold value.
January 4, 201115 yr Go the extra mile for the Sandy Bridge i7-2600K (unlocked multiplier) that will got to close to 5 GHz on air alone.Cheers,- jahman.
January 4, 201115 yr Sandy Bridge is the replacement for Lynnfield. As such, unless you're getting a huge discount on a Lynnfield bundle it doesn't make sense to purchase one. Go for Sandy Bridge. It's faster at the same clock speed, clocked higher out of the box, and has higher clock potential. For the same price that's a no-brainer.
January 4, 201115 yr Author Yes, I did a little research on this Sandy Bridge and I am going this route unless I can get a Lynnfield for a rediculous price which I doubt will happen
January 4, 201115 yr And a ram with 51 reviews averaging 2 stars is normally not a good choice. JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI

January 4, 201115 yr Author Will do, although someone will have the cpu before me. If I end up building this computer it will be 2 weeks from now min as I am waiting on a check
January 5, 201115 yr If you're in the Denver area, head to microcenter and get your Sandy Bridge chip there.i5-2500k: $179.99i7-2600k: $279.99by the way, I would be weary of buying anything made by OCZ... hint, hint, your PSU and RAM selection. May I suggest: Antec 300i5-2500kAsus P8P67Mushkin (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Corsair 650WSamsung Spinpoint F3 1TB[/url]Sony 18X DVDAsus GTX460 I think that's about as cheap of an i5-2500k system you can build without compromising in any major way. I don't know why posting a table is so hard - I had to post an image of a table instead. if anybody knows how to do it, feel free to share some insight.
