Thinking of purchasing MD-11, a couple questions

Featured Replies

I'm considering purchasing the MD-11 for FSX, and I just had a few questions:What performance data is included(optimum altitude, etc)? I'm not concerned about V-speeds, since I have TOPCAT.Does it have any serious open bugs affecting FSX with SP2 and Win 7.How well does the failure system work?

Performance data is very little into the manuals (the only downside of the MD-11, it seems that Boeing didn't allow PMDG to publish those informations): in the FCOM some figures about VREF and landing distances...I think that it is one of the very rare bug-free product around, but i use it on XP so i can't confirm it on Win7.the failure system is the best in FS world, really. I recommand you this bird, is amazing.Cheers,

^ What he said, It's really amazing, even though there aren't much airlines that fly this babe.I'm still learning it.. can't figure out why the speeds are not recalculated upon going around.

Sounds like I'll get it, I"ve got TOPCAT so the PERF data isn't an issue.

I took a look at the manuals, and it says not to use a third party loader? Does it work alright with TOPCAT?

It's always worked perfectly for me. Spot on with the loading.

Works like a charm with TOPCAT...don't be afraid...;)

Excellent, even with the 'export to flightsim' option? Just checking as the manual warns against it rather strongly.

Don't use the export to FS option. I doubt it'll harm anything, but it's against PMDG's warning, so I haven't done it. To be honest, you're going to have weight differences anyway, because people are heavier/lighter than the airline standard, and bags are as well, so the dispatch sheet is never going to be spot on (thus, having TOPCAT approximate what the load manager sends is going to give you a more realistic experience).I use it on Win 7x64 and have no issues. Just make sure that your UAC issues are taken care of.

Ever used the export to FS option of TOPCAT. I never experienced a single problem, hope this help.Cheers,

this should be adjustable via config button in TOPCAT

The Queen and the MD-11 are" rockstable" , have no serious open bugs with FSX SP2 and WIN7 64bit (and MS system updates til today)But you should be familiar with privilege elevation of W7.Have fun with your new aircraft.

It is. That's not the point.I'm saying, in the real world, you'll get a dispatch sheet based off of those numbers, but in reality, those numbers are off, because the guy in seat 32A weighs 250 pounds, whereas the girl next to him weighs 80. The weights are an average, which gets close, but the differences between the PMDG Load Manager and TOPCAT mimic that, so don't use TOPCAT as the load manager: 1- PMDG doesn't advise it, 2- you're never going to be that exact.

Do yourself a favor and buy the MD-11. It is beyond amazing and totally stable on my win7 machine running FSX SP2 as well as FS9.

The warning in the manual means to not use anything that uses the default FS loading system - using TOPCAT to load the MD-11 or 747 (and soon NGX) is perfectly fine, it loads the fuel/payload correctly.
