Getting Back to FSX After A Break - Compilation of Links / Information?

Featured Replies

Hi All,I will shortly be getting back into FSX after a long hiatus - I broke up my previous PC and sold the parts, bought an iMac for general computer use, and now I have the money to build a dedicated FSX PC.I thought I'd be cheeky and ask if anyone has a compilation of links to must-have information, or downloads of must have tweaks. When I was last using FSX, Nick N's tweak page was the number one stop, and the Shader 3 mod had just surfaced.Any information and comments will be greatly appreciated!

The infamous simforums link still works fine. There's a few others that have surfaced over the last year. I hardly use any tweaks but I do use an external frame rate limiter:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324749-which-external-frame-limiter-is-everyone-using/page__p__1916094__hl__fps+limiter__fromsearch__1#entry1916094

NickN is still your first stop.. and if you have a Nvidia video card, you'll want tocheck out the Nvidia Inspector setup topic as well. There is also an on-line tuning site by Bojote which is worth a visit..

Holy Water will help too. While part of me enjoys the never ending tweaking, just ... argh.Got a 580GTX and discovered that not using the external limiter was better.Unfortunately you have to methodically proceed and test each tweak.

I'm used to that, I had FSX ever since it first came out, was present for the Service Pack sagas and beyond, and witnessed lots of screaming, crying and breaking of keyboards on the AVSIM forums! However, with Nick, and more recently, *******, I think we can all get to a stage where we can run FSX to the best ability of the hardware we own.Honestly I'm looking forward to installing FsX on my new dedicated rig once built, then all the add-ons, then all the updates to the add-ons, and the updates to the updates, and then tweaking the life out of it!Maybe I need help? Welcome back to FSX! If you are planning on using Windows 7, I suggest you see NickN's thread on tuning the OS specifically for W7 (includes FSX optimization as well) at : http://www.simforums...187.html#198187Follow that up with the UIAutomation fix (required!) http://forums1.avsim...hing-win-7-x64/Finally, apply Bojote's tweaks: http://forum.avsim.n...ak-compilation/And if you have a newer NVIDIA GPU, you will want to use this link to setup the card for Anti Aliasing with Nvidia Inspector (to replace Nhancer which does not work with the newer drivers) http://www.simforums.com/forums/fsx-and-nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated_topic36586.htmlThose are the basic OS/FSX tuning threads I used when I built my Windows7 64 I7 system last year, and it has worked great for me!

I was out of FSX for a while... just rebuilt a pc,witha an EVGA x58 / core i7-950/ ATi 5870/ AND.... WOW... I am flying around with sliders maxed and very dense dynamic scenery and I am cruising around with a solid 30FPS.... that is pretty wild!!! Totally insane. Not even using that preview dx10. I am totally in awe... gotta get some scenery packs now.
