March 2, 201115 yr That's right. Newegg.com is starting to carry 1155 mobos again. Right now there is only Biostar and MSI but ASUS has shipped their mobos to newegg, so they will be available shortly too! Ethan Rayhorn My Office: (Taken at FL410)
March 2, 201115 yr Thanks for the heads up!I'm ready to purchase. First upgrade in almost 4 years. Have a E6850 now. Stuck with making a decision on everything else. Leaning toward Asus Sabertooth or EVGA P67 SLI mobos. EVGA GTX570 for video. I like the Noctua NH-D14 cooling but it is incompatible with G.Skill Ripjaws or Corsair Dominator memory. Was looking at a H70 but not 100% sold on sealed water cooling. Anyone have any thoughts on their build? Chuck Biggins

Anyone have any thoughts on their build?I'm in the same position, building up a rig which will be pretty much dedicated to FSX and the NGX with some cockpit hardware thrown in. From my research the NH-D14 can't be beat as an air cooler, water cooling (non sealed systems are very fiddly) is more suited to overclocking your CPU. The H70 has had decent reviews from what I have read. It's reportedly much better than Corsair's original sealed H50. The bottom line for me is the CPU grunt that FSX requires. You can bet that to get frame rates really kicking, a few more volts will be need to be applied to the CPU. It's Water for me. Stand by for tears when I soak my 1155 mobo..

March 5, 201115 yr I've been doing some research lately and I think I've settled on my build. 2600K, Asus P8P67 Deluxe mobo, 8GB of G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600 7-8-7-24 memory, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, EVGA GTX570 Superclocked ($30 MIR!).Carrying over from current system - Coolermaster Mystique Case, Thermaltake Toughpower 650W PS, WD Caviar Black 1TB HD.Been looking at the H70 cooler and I think its great! The NH-D14 and the H70 are pretty much equal in benchmarks. The NH-D14 is a little cheaper so I'm getting it based on that. That puts me at my budget limit of about $1200.I plan on overclocking to a conservative speed of around 4GHz.I'm putting on my wishlist a SSD of at least 100Gb. Will wait for prices to drop further. What do you think? Can I do better for the money? Chuck Biggins

What do you think? Can I do better for the money? Well the SSD is a must. Some people are inclined to put only fsx on the SSD, however, I would get a 100 gig or more SSD and put both the OS and fsx on the SSD. Having the OS on the drive will make a huge difference! You will get super quick boot and shutdown times. Also once you have booted, you wont have to wait 5mins for the system to load all of the different things. Once it is booted, youre ready to go immediately. Also, when you click on an operating system function, like Internet explorer, or calculator, it is up and ready literally before you can blink. That is why I recommend the OS with fsx on the drive. I'd get the h70. Most of those benchmarks are out of case tests. This means that the MOBO is out of the case, and just sitting out on a table. So in this case, the noctua has a clean space to pull air from. When it is in the case however, depending on setup, many times it can 'choke' itself on it's own exhaust. This ofcourse decreases performance. The noctua is still a great cooler, but this is something to consider depending on your setup. Finally, I'd be a little scared to use a 650 power supply at load with a system like that. That depends on several factors, but I would consider upping the PSU. If I'm not mistaken, 650 is the bare minimum for the 570. (correct me if wrong)My 2 cents. Ethan Rayhorn My Office: (Taken at FL410)
March 5, 201115 yr Author Also for FSX, the 2500k is just as good as the 2600k. This is because it can't utilize the hyper threading capabilities of the 2600k. So I would get the 2500k and save $100. Also, unless you really need the extra usb 3.0 ports of the deluxe, (which of course have to be supported by USB 3.0 capable devices), and the extra Ethernet port of the deluxe, I'd go with the pro or evo from ASUS and save a few bucks. Now that it's in, I doubt I'll see any difference at all. It still runs 2 video cards just fine (I run more than FSX) & has 4 6gb sata ports, so I'm good. It also gave my pc a total of 12 usb ports and now my 6-pin firewire port on the case works! March 6, 201115 yr I'll wait for the Ivy Bridge to show up. After what I heard about Sandy - no thanks. What's so bad about Sandy Bridge? I've got a 2600K and I have no problem. I payed the same price as the i7 920 originally was and I easily OCed my chip to 4.5 GHZ on air.
