May 12, 201115 yr Thanks Dario. I've been following this thread and thought already I made a huge mistake by sending the 2133 RAM back. Now I'm calmed. 50€ more wouldn't have paid off.No problem my friend, but I don't understand why someone like you, very much tech savvy, doesn't take half an hour to test it (1833Cl9 vs 1333CL10 for example) and see by yourself if it makes a difference that's worth your money or not... and share your conclusions with us afterwards of course I know, I know, just had to try hehe
May 13, 201115 yr Sorry to jump in here as a novice builder. I wonder if someone can explain the difference between comparing the ram speed 1333, 1600, etc. versus the ram timing CAS9 CAS8, CAS5.My understanding is that these are two different things, with ram speed increasing with the numbers and the timings getting faster as the CAS number goes down. Is that correct ????I was looking at 1600 with CAS 7 Mark CYYZ

May 14, 201115 yr Thanks,Now, just re-reading the thread I am wondering if I should think about the Mushkin Redline 1600 @ CAS6 versus CAS7. Stephen's experience seems like a good one to follow.Mark. Mark CYYZ
May 14, 201115 yr Not sure if I'm allowed to do this here, but my 1600 CL6 memory is up for sale. It's two sets (4x2GB) of Mushkin 996826. I'm interested in putting the money towards a new computer case. PM me if you're interested and we can work something out. May 14, 201115 yr Well to start, this video seems to demonstrate what a stutter free system is.....although I don't know whether he achieved this with a video editor or just a purely fine tuned FSX system. But with the system he's using, I could slash almost $800 if compared to the system I was planning to build. Here are his specs:PC Alienwareintel i7 920 [email protected]® X58 full x16 PCI-ExpressLiquid CoolingRam 6GB DDR3Card GTX26021in HD Alienware 1920x 1080pWindows 7 64bitAnd the video flying over Manhattan probably on the Aerosoft Airbus X.Nice....:Applause: but :Thinking:Cheers,Mark
May 14, 201115 yr Yeah, nothing can compete with the Alienware awesomeness and it's full x16 PCI-Express Is that the wrong vid Mark?
May 14, 201115 yr Yeah, nothing can compete with the Alienware awesomeness and it's full x16 PCI-Express Is that the wrong vid Mark?oh sorry, there you go....and you mean if I build a PC with those specs, performance is gonna be different than the original Alienware PC?
May 14, 201115 yr and you mean if I build a PC with those specs, performance is gonna be different than the original Alienware PC?oh, no no, it will be better if you build it yourself because you'll be able to pick a better PSU, mobo case... and still safe money. I was poking fun at Alienware's marketing gimmicks like "full 16x PCIe" when every single GPU setup has that

May 14, 201115 yr so those running 2600k's @ 4.8Ghz and a GTX580 would be this fluid too?I can't watch the video properly ATM since I'm currently at 100% CPU usage and it will look choppy anyway, but seeing all the effects he used when he edited the video, he may have just recorded the original FSX at a super slow pace, and then speed it up upon edition to make it look ultra smooth

May 15, 201115 yr Thanks,Now, just re-reading the thread I am wondering if I should think about the Mushkin Redline 1600 @ CAS6 versus CAS7. Stephen's experience seems like a good one to follow.Mark.There has been endless debate regarding whether or not CAS6 1600HMz ram is worth the extra money. I do not want to start another debate and will not participate in one, but since you asked I will give you my opinion. To run FSX the first and most important thing you need is a fast CPU. Then in my opinion for the rest of it you should get the best that you can afford. Everything in the PC works together and while I agree that benchmarks may not show any real difference when using CAS6 1600MHz ram it sure is not going to hurt. It is like a chain is as weak as it weakest link.So if you have not bought any ram yet I would look at what Corey posted he had for sale, ask him what he wants for it and compare that price to other CAS6 ram. Mushkin CAS6 ram is great ram and it has not even been listed on Newegg for awhile.
May 15, 201115 yr To run FSX the first and most important thing you need is a fast CPU. Then in my opinion for the rest of it you should get the best that you can afford. +1There is no such thing as overkill in my PC's world.
May 15, 201115 yr I don't understand that reasoning. Not talking about anything in particular like RAM speed, just as a motto generally speaking. Overkill is overkill, like your PSU Alain. That's overkill anyway you look at it. I agree on getting the best you can afford, but the definition of what's the best is not always the most expensive or the biggest amount of a certain factor. Like RAM, too much RAM can make things worse OC wise and once you have enough, the rest is overkill. Personally I'm interested in knowing what I get for my money, what kind of impact on performance has each particular upgrade relative to other options or other parts' upgrades, and then decide whether it's worth my money or not
