March 9, 201115 yr Hi this is my current systemI7 950Mainbaoard ASUS P6T DELUXE V26 GB RAM Corsair Dominator2 x 500 GB HD SeagatePSU Corsair 850WVGA NVIDIA Gforce 285W7 Ultimate 64 BITThe question is what can i change that really improve performance with FSX usually i use FSX + GEX + REX + UT2 + PMDG aircraft at 1920 x 1080 and it run quite smooth a part in dense airport like Charles de Gaulle I was wandering about the VGA card for a Nvidia 470 or the new 570 but i doesn't know how cain i improve FPS with this one.6 GB of Ram i think it's okHd speed is only related to load timeAny suggestion ? March 9, 201115 yr Hi Marco,I don't think investing in a new graphicscard like the 570, will give you the improvement you're looking for.You didn't mention the clockspeed of your i7-950 CPU, so I guess it's at the standard clock setting. You might want to consider to overclock the CPU. The i7 is pretty easy to overclock. However, don't do it with the standard Intel CPU cooler. Use a better cooler like a Thermaltake, Arctic Freezer or the Scythe Mugen-2 (like I have). On the internet you'll find good step-by-step tutorials on how to overclock your i7.If that still not satisfies you, you should search the forums for some FSX tweaks.Did you apply the Bojote FSX.CFG analyses tool?If you look at my sig, you see my specs. With this system I get very good frames in pretty much all circumstances. At very large airports, with complex aircraft (like the 747-400X) and lot's of AI traffic, my fps drops to around 10-15 fps, which is still acceptable for me (it's still very flyable).Don't chase an "always-above-50-fps" simulator, based on FSX fully loaded with all kinds of addons and with maxed-out settings. It doesn't exist. Regards, Frank van der Werff
March 9, 201115 yr Author My i7 is in standard clock but i have a CM690 Case With 8 120 fan and a Thermaltake Frio for the CPU.Do you think that an overclock + a CFG would improve ? Do you know if i can set the cpu in overclock without reboot with asus mainboardThanks Marco Negri
March 9, 201115 yr you should definitely overclock your CPU. FSX really like raw CPU power (=high clock) over GPU power. I'm running my 950 @ 4,2 Ghz. A new GPU will allow you to run better and higher levels of AA over you current card. My system is basically the same as yours and I'm running my 280 on 8x AA without SuperSampling or Transparency Sampling, as it is a too big impact on my framerates when flying with real weather. (= a lot of clouds)However, I'm saving for a 570 (still looking for FSX performance on the ATI 6950/6970) to be able to run higher levels of AA and super-transparency sampling.Asus has an easy overclock utility that allows you to overclock without rebooting/changes to BIOS. Please remember, that an overclock through this utility is very limited. As Frank already mentioned, overclocking the i7 platform is not really difficult, just look and read the available guides online. March 9, 201115 yr You can also consider installing FSX in a SSD. George Golas ---------------------- I hate gravity!
March 9, 201115 yr You can also consider installing FSX in a SSD.that will only improve loading times and might enhance texture loading, thus reduce stutter slightly, but no effect on actual framerates. In his case, I would a. start overclocking, b. upgrade GPU and c. maybe upgrade to SSD Lennart
March 9, 201115 yr Any suggestions to improve performance with an ATI Radeon 5770? I've got an I7-930 at 2.8 ghz running on a Dell 9100 XPSJen noulet
March 9, 201115 yr Commercial Member Hi this is my current systemI7 950Mainbaoard ASUS P6T DELUXE V26 GB RAM Corsair Dominator2 x 500 GB HD SeagatePSU Corsair 850WVGA NVIDIA Gforce 285W7 Ultimate 64 BITAny suggestion ?Marco, your system is almost identical to mine, except i have an i7 920, and run it on Vista64. Overclocking is an inexpensive (free) option for you, which on the P6T Deluxe can be very easy if you choose. I like to keep things simple (I have no desire to dig deeply into overclocking) so I just set voltage to Auto and change the Clock speed (my multiplier is fixed at 21). The P6T also has a turbo mode, so it will dynamically adjust your clock speed based on demand. Just be sure to have a good cooler and monitor your temperatures. Obviously there are some risks, so read up on it first. The improvement for me was dramatic. Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com

After an overclock i have tested a 920 @ 4 ghz in my laboratory with 3dmark with no problem with intel fan, so i think that in my cabinet with 8 120 fan and a thermaltake air system i should not have problem at 4 ghz with a 3,2 default CPU. The only problem is my cat that loves to sleep over the two top fans :D and sometimes tryi to hijack the plane during landing. In this case i need to set 7500 in my transponder ? Marco Negri
March 9, 201115 yr Commercial Member Definitely overclock - your system is still pretty good. There will be some benefit moving to a better vid card, but not as much as you gain by OCing. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
