Posted 06 April 2009 - 08:09 AM Peter-Okay- <hatchet buried>.We've been seeing a bit more imperiousness of late- so your post rubbed me the wrong way. The issue here is that we have something to the tune of 30 lights on the MD-11 model. As a result, we have had to use a different method to provide a dome light- and while the dome light on the airplane is powered by the Hot Bat Bus, the effect that we are using is tracking a hard-coded flag within FSX that turns it off when an engine isn't running. We worked around this for the v1.10 update- but this introduced a RAFT of other problems- and we elected to put it back. Sometimes- the original method really was the best idea... here is a post from you Ryan that i 've picked up few minutes ago from 2 yaers ago and it explains exactly what i'm encountering. As long as the engines are running the lighting operation is in a normal mode: thats to say everything works like a charm. But when i'm parked under GPU there is no way for me to get the lighting system to work fine. When under GPU the storm light illuminates the overhead a part of the cockpit but the seats areas remain dark. Meanwhile the dome light doesnt work properly, i mean it doesnt work at all. When iclik on it i see a very slight array of light but not much more. Conclusion : Engines off , lighting system doesnt work properly. WHAT CAN I DO ?PS: Emergency light works fine and illuminates the whole cockpit at all times.Kaman BAImac 27Win7 64 proFSX sp2MD11 PMDG up to date

This post makes no sense whatsoever. Your probably better submitting a support ticket to PMDG for support, instead of trolling around here.

The post you quoted, or meant to quote (I'm assuming the quoted post is the non-bold/italics part of your post), answers your question:When the engines are off, the lighting system will not work 100% correctly, as a limitation placed on the developer by FSX.

He is not trolling, he is making a question although he does not know this is not the way to do it. A little more comprehension would be fine.To bakaman, support is not given overhere anymore, you have to access the PMDG ticket system and send a ticket with your question. This is done herehttp://support.precisionmanuals.com/Main/Default.aspxRegards
THANX fellas!!! and to pager 94 ... i just let it goKaman
No worries.Cheers,BB

The post had a provocative tone throughout and the English was not clear.

Perhaps English is not his/her first language? Wild thought I know, but there are some people in the world who don't speak English and sometimes when they try, the tone may appear to be something that was not intended.

I do not understand this post or the ticket, which says the same thing.
Alright,Let me try again. I'm facing an issue involving the dome light switch and the storm light switch. They illuminate the cockpit area only when engines are running. I have not found any solution for this pb yet. What is your advice for this well known pb (see the quote please)? Or Do i have to deal with it forever because it's a fsx limitation. Furthermore i've submitted a ticket on the product support forum.Regards Kaman BA

Ok,I went and looked at this myself and asked Vin - here's the story:1. The Storm light will work as long as the aircraft has some sort of power aside from the battery connected. External power works, APU works etc. I verified this.2. The Dome light is essentially a hack we had to do to make it work separately from other lights - you can't have more than one cockpit light in the aircraft.cfg lights section so to do this we leveraged the "smoke" system FSX has - instead of triggering a smoke trail like this function normally does, we modified that effect so that it becomes a light. The limitation on doing this is that FSX requires the engines to be running for you to see the "smoke". Not really much we can do about this - FSX was not built to handle the sort of complex cockpit lighting the MD-11 has. Now, as to why this is actually a problem for you, I'm not sure - you can still fully light up all the panels in the normal way with the backlighting and flood knobs.
