Rebuilding my PC

Featured Replies

Ok guys, I am thinking of fixing my burnt out rig with the intel E8500 @ 3.16 ghz. I saw it cheap at that Newegg place but that is in the US, so I was wondering if there was anyone that could help me find this CPU preferably at a computer shop not online store. And one little question, would the EVGA GTX 460 GPU be compatible with the motherboard which I believe is a gigabyte g45 or something like that.

Have you tried here?

Paul Smith.

Have you tried here?
Huh, clever.
You know what guys, i don't know about building myself so I logged onto here and found this:http://www.newegg.co...9-234-_-ProductWhat do you think?
I wouldn't sweat building a PC, it's a lot easier than you'd think. There's some good advice on parts in this topic & you'd get more bang for your buck.

Yeah, I know. My older brother built his PC and it was really good for its time with the E8400, 4GB of RAM but then I blew it up and am trying to fix his and build my own. I would really like to buy from newegg.com to take advantage of the Australian dollar given it is so strong at the moment and I am just trying to find out if it will be cheaper to import parts separately or just import this and put a VelociRaptor HDD into it for FSX. One more thing, which is better an i7 2600 or an i7 960.Thanks

Just one little question, what would be the best GPU for the gigabyte EP45-UD3 motherboard.

Hi guys,I have a question which really needs answering (don't want to be rude or anything). I have decided on doing an upgrade or overhaul as such so I can save on things like OS, screen, dvd drive, gpu. I am going to get all the things that you all recommended except a downgrade on the motherboard. Here is what I want:Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M800CPU: i7 2600kMotherboard: P8P67 V3 / P8P67 Pro V3, need to know the advantages and whether it is worth itRAM: Corsair 8G 1600Kit C8 VengeanceI really need to know if my old hard drive would work on the motherboard along with my GPU (unfamiliar with brand, it has no dressing i.e. it is just a plate and fan, only know its gigabyte 512mb) Please replyBatting%20Eyelashes.gif

Get a 64 bit OS or half your RAM is a complete waste of money. Get the i5-2500k instead and with the money you save, buy a graphics card. Get 1333 memory instead and with the money you save, buy a disk.

Paul Smith.

Ok. Here's the scoop...If you plan on mostly using fsx, then the 2600k doesn't offer any advantages over the 2500k. The 2600k has hyperthreading which fsx can't use, and you actually can usually get a higher overclock with HT off. So if you went with the 2500k, then you would save about a hundred dollars (US) and not loose any performance. I don't know what your operating system is, but windows 7 offers a large performance boost, as well as having a great interface. It is important to note that a 32 bit OS won't let fsx use more than 2 GB of ram. A 64 bit OS will let fsx use it's maximum of 4 GB of ram. So, there is a definite performance gain with a 64 bit system. FSX is a 32 bit application, and therefore can't use more than 4 GB of ram, even with a 64 bit OS. (As stated above, it uses only 2 gig without an x64 OS) I have 4 GB in my rig, and it runs great! In fact, I have never seen the usage go above 3.5 gig even with a host of addons running. 8 GB is certainly not bad, but unless you will be doing something that actually uses the 8 gig, you might want to save some money and go with 4 gig. Also, as far as your video card: Whether that will fit in the new mobo is a complete gamble. It could be an old AGP card or something. You should definitely get a new GPU! 1GB+ is the standard now, and Ryan has stated that texture loads with the NGX might get close to 1 gig. There are some new architecture cards that offer some really good performance. I have the EVGA GTX 560 Ti, and it is a fantastic card! It is affordable, and it performs great! I highly recommend it. Whether you decide to go who the 560 Ti is up to you, but you definitely need an upgrade from your current one. =)Finally, if your old HDD is an IDE drive, then it won't fit. You should get a new harddrive anyway, and do a clean install of everything. This will fix stability and performance issues that you may have had with your old system. Hope this helps! :biggrin:Take Care Sir...

Oh, I forgot that you asked about the motherboard. Personally, I dont think you need the pro version of tgat mobo. Unless you are going with SLI, which I imagine you won't, then the P8P67 is a great board for the basics. I could explain the differences to you, but that work has already been done for me. I think there was a thread in the Avsim hardware forums that details the differences between the boards. I'll see if I can find it. EDIT: Aha! Okay, this is a quote from Dario (Dazz) over in the HW forum. I added line breaks for better readability.

ASUS P8P67 LE: No VRM, and not good for overclcockASUS P8P67: The basic model, perfectly fine if you don't plan on SLI o Xfire. 12+2 power phases, USB3, SATA3, 4 SATA 2 ports, 4 SATA 3 portsASUS P8P67 PRO: The same as the basic ASUS P8P67, but with SLI/XFire support, a much better Intel® 82579 LAN controller, 2 ESATA 3 ports for external sata devicesASUS SABERTOOTH: Same features as the PRO + the thermal armor thing, two extra USB ports in the back panel... but just 8+2 power phases (#####? Am I missing something?) that on the other hand are probably more than enoughASUS P8P67 EVO: The same as the PRO, but with both the Realtek & the Intel LAN controllers and a stupid heatsink in the middle of nowhere ASUS P8P67 DELUXE: Same thing as the EVO with some extra power phases (16 + 2) The general consensus is that 16+2 vs 12+2 makes no difference in OCing thoughASUS WS REVOLUTION: 2 Intel LAN controlers and a RAID 0 & 1 controllerASUS MAXIMUM IV EXTREME: Comes with the NF200 chip to enable TRI-SLI. Makes little sense to me unless you plan on going TRI-SLI (on DUAL SLI it does nothing the PRO, EVO or DELUXE can't do already)

Hi all,Just for a frame of reference I just built a new PC, specs are in the signature. I've just begun testing FSX this week, I have all my sliders at max, I'm running ASE, REX2, ORBX PNW, UT2 (100% traffic) and FSPax. My first flight was from KSEA to KSFO in the Wilco E-170 my frame rates at KSEA from the ground to about 5000ft were about 13-18fps, above 5000ft in climb, cruise and decent the frame rates were 40-50fps and on approach and landing at KSFO they were 18-22fps. My second flight was from KSEA to ZBAA in the LDS 767 again the frames at KSEA were 13-18fps, in climb, cruise and decent 40-50fps, and on approach, landing, and taxi at ZBAA 22-27fps. I will be testing the PMDG 744 this weekend and the JS 41 next week, I suspect that I will see some fps hit with those tests but we'll see.I know that my first system upgrade, around christmas time, will be my CPU to an i5 2500k. I did not start there because I got the CPU I'm using for free.I hope that helps you. If your interested I'll let you know what my results are with the PPMDG 744 and JS41.MichaelEDIT: I'd be happy to take some route suggestion for the PMDG744 and JS41 testing. Only requirement that they begin or end in the ORBX PNW scenery area.

I will eventually upgrade the OS to 7 and although FSX will be my primary game, I am also aiming to do other things.

Ok, if Ethan says so I will downgrade to the Corsair 4GB 1600 C8 Kit. My HDD is a Western Digital 500GB SATA 16mb cache (pretty sure that would work) and, regarding my GPU, I still can't find out what it is so I got some pictures to show (its very dusty):Hope this helps. Oh and regarding the motherboards, would FSX really use SLI, and would I be able to overclock, good GPU and everything on the ASUS P8P67.
