New Airport

Featured Replies

I have just installed a new commercial airport package. The Airport has in real life only just been opened and did not exist in FSX. After running the updater, the airport runways are recognised in RC but not the frequencies. If I manually put the frequencies in the Controller info., then it works. How do I put the frequencies in permanently? (The airport in question is FALE, which replaces FADN, which has now closed).

Hi Ian,Now there's a coincidence. 24 hours ago I was sitting in the real King Shaka Intl airport waiting for my flight to Dubai and then onward to Manchester in the Emirates A380. I've only been home 6 hours so I hope you'll forgive me for not giving you a fuller reply tonight. Once I've had a good night's kip I'll post details of which files you need to update to get FALE recognised in RC4.I've installed some freeware scenery for King Shaka and RC works just fine with it so I'm sure it will be okay with your commercial package. Do they do a version for FS9?

Navaid frequencies are pulled from the scenery with the scenery rebuild utility. Permanent comm frequency changes need to be edited into f4.csv with a text editor such as notepad or wordpad. Do NOT use a spreadsheet program or database program. You can right click on f4.csv and choose Open With to pick your appication. In RC4 they are not pulled from the scenery.Make a safe copy of f4.csv in case you need to restore it. Open f4.csv in notepad or wordpad. Search for FADN. Cut this line into Win clipboard highlighting then entire line by dragging your cursor over it. :FADN,Durban Intl,112,0,122.65,118.7,0,0,119.9,0Search for FALC, the line to be before the new FALE line. Go to the end of FALC, hit Enter to start a new line and paste the FADN line there. Press home to move your cursor to the beginning of the line.Drag you cursor over FADN and type over it to get FALE. Do the same for the airport name if it has changed. Keep commas and do not add spaces so the format is preserved. If the frequencies at FALE have the same structure as FADN then just over-type the changes between the commas by matching the old frequency function assignments to the new ones. When you cut and then pasted the original FADN line should have been deleted. You can if you wish keeo the old FADN line by using copy/paste instead of cut/paste. If so increase the number at the top of f4.csv by one. Go back and check and delete any blank line by placing your cursor at the beginning of that blank line and using delete. If there is a blank line it would be after FADL.You can use the payware AFX or freeware ADE9X afcad type programs to get the full comm frequency list structure for FADN and FALE from your scenery to provide reference comparisons for the substitution field order. I don't have my f4.csv notes handy right now.If any error occurs so RC gives you an error then just copy your backup f4 file over f4.csv to start over. Remember any file saves here must be in .txt format (but with the .csv extension). Do NOT use a spreadsheet or database program to edit this file. The structure of each line must be preserved.

MakeRunways also extracts the frequencies and puts them into the f5.csv file, ready for RCV5. That'll be sitting there, unused, in the main FS folder. It isn't in the same format as f4.csv but it could be used as a source for the frequencies set in the scenery.RegardsPete

Good idea. If you paste a copy of the two airport lines, FALE under FADN sourced from f5.csv into a temprary document you can compare the fields top to bottom to compare old and new. Your FALE comm frequencies were added to f5.csv when you ran the RC scenery rebuild. There is an explanation of the f5.csv field definitions in MakeRwys ReadMe.txt all in your FS folder. While as noted the field order is not the same for f4.csv the comparison should be vaslid for changing the field content in the FALE line you'll create in f4.csv.

Not withstanding the advice from Pete here's what I did to get FALE recognised in RC4.Open A4.CSV using Notepad and add this entry ensuring it's in alphabetical order:-FALE, ,-29.61168 , 31.11929 , 20.901 , 304 , 12139I retained FADN even though it's now decommisioned. You can remove it if you wish but ensure it's also removed from any other of the data files. Might be best to leave it alone as it does no harm.Next open R4.CSV and add these entries in alphabetical order. I suggest you use a AFCAD program to check the frequencies are identical to mine but as they only relate to ILS they should be the same.FALE,0060,-29.624933,31.107695,304,58.171,12139,111.30DG,197,-20.901,-29.611685,31.119291,0,,FALE,0240,-29.598436,31.130888,304,238.171,12139,109.70DG,197,-20.901,-29.611685,31.119291,0,,Save and close R4.CSV.Open F4.CSV and add this entry in alphabetical order:-FALE,Durban - King Shaka,127.0,118.05,118.05,118.05,0,0,121.65,0I can't remember the order they're listed in so if you're reading this JD can you please publish the sequence. You could compare these frequencies to the file Pete directed you to and check if they're the same. That's all you need. FALE will now be recognised by RC4. Hope that helps.

Er, why did you have to do all that? MakeRunways provides that data. That's its main job! That's why you run it for RC, after installing new scenery.
Open F4.CSV and add this entry in alphabetical order:-FALE,Durban - King Shaka,127.0,118.05,118.05,118.05,0,0,121.65,0
That's the part the OP was asking about, because RCV4 (unlike RCV5) doesn't get the COM frequencies from MakeRunways.Hope you had a super break in SA. I've been laid up with a stinking cold all week.Best RegardsPete

It was only a couple of copy and paste but if it's not required then no matter. At least it clears up what's required.

I did thanks Pete. Hope you feel better soon. The only thing I brought back was mosquito bites. Little sods!!

Unfortunately only FSX. But if you have FSX. get NMGTradings King Shaka, it is so detailed, it's amazing.

Sorry guys, I ran Makerwys again but there is no f5.csv file anywhere ( and I used a search engine). It is late on Friday, so I will work on it over the weekend and see what happens..

You must be using a very old version of MakeRunways as the assorted files for RCV5 have been produced by all recent versions, for a year or two. There are also g5.csv (Gates), t5.csv (Taxiways), and runways.xml files produced these days -- the CSV files for RC, the XML for some other programs. I would advise you to update to the latest whether you want those extras or not, as there are lots of other improvements and corrections to deal with some strange scenery quirks which can arise, and on top of that the program runs about ten times faster these days because all the sorting is done in memory now and it only does one scenery scan. The current version is 4.45, over in the Download Links subforum of my Support Forum.RegardsPete

First, you should be running makerwys.exe version 4.41 or later as well as FSUIPC 3.98a (FS9) or 4.60 (FSX) or later. The links are are at the forum top. Be sure when running the RC scenery rebuild you put in the correct path to your FS folder when asked. If you are on a FS host RC client network using wide FS the first you go into your FS folder and execute makerwys.exe directly and then from within RC on the client do the scenery rebuild. In the non-networked setup RC and FS reside on the same PC when you execute the RC scenery rebuild it will call in ts processing makerwys.exe in your FS folder and copy files back to the RC/data folder. Again, you must provide the correct path to your FS folder each time you run the RC Scenery Rebuild task.makerwys.exe creates in your FS folder an f5.csv, r4.csv, r5.csv, t5.csv, and g5.csv. Of all of these RC version 4 only uses r5.csv and copies it into to RC4/data folder as r4.csv (it no longer uses the r4.csv in your FS folder effective since version 3483 of RC4). The other files are for the version 5 of RC under development. RC after setting up r4.csv in its folder then creates a4.csv from it. f4.csv is a fixed file with RC4 placed at installation time. The fact that RC is recognizing FALE without giving you an error when you load the flight plan means that some version of makerwys is running and that r5.csv is correctly being copied back to the RC/data folder as r4.csv and creating a4.csv. You can insure that FALE lines are in r4.csv and a4.csv in your RC4/data folder. If you are not generating an f5.csv file in your FS folder then you must be running a much earlier version of makerwys than 4.41 The f5.csv file in this instance was only mentioned as a way to get the proper field setup reference guide so you can field by field look at the old values of FADN and the new values of FALE so you'll know what values you need to overwrite in your FALE line you are adding to the fixed f4.csv file on your RC4 folder. If you find your f5.csv file (make sure it is current) copy/paste just your FALE line in a reply here and I'll attempt to create correctly the line for you to insert/paste into f4.csv explaining what I did. It is best to give your user login admin privileges as well so you can properly get into the necessary data files created in your FS folder and in your RC folder.

I acquired FALE charts from IVAO. You will need to modify two files:First try Ray's mod to f4.csv.Second you will need to modify m4.csv which is data for the vector intercept altitudes and the transition altitude.Backup m4.csv. The in RC4/data right click on m4.csv selecting open with notepad or wordpad. Do edit find the line starting with FALC which is:FALC,5734,18000Go to the end of that line and hit enter to place the cursor at the beginning of a new line. Paste in or type in the line below:FALE,2700,5500and save the file so when you are done that area will look like:FALC,5734,18000FALE,2700,5500FALI,5219,18000Here are links to general information about both the old and new airports. You can see from the map the location has moved from the south to the north.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FADNhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FALEHere's a link to the IVAO charts for South Africa:http://za.ivao.aero/index.php/flight-ops/chartsClick on view and then download the pdf charts of your choice.
