April 5, 201115 yr Guys,I'm running ActiveSky 6.5 for FS9 with REX OD for textures. Should I upgrade my AS version? I feel like I have a bad setting right now. Everytime I check on it, it appears to be on the VAS Auto Gen mode. Any tips, pointers, or general guidelines would be appreciated. April 5, 201115 yr Hi Dave,It all depends on what you are looking for. I've been using ASv6.5 for years on both FS9 and FSX with REX OD and I'm very satisfied! I once thought about moving to ASA or ASE but all the new features won't make any difference to me so I decided to stay with ASv6.5 and I don't regret. If you can, please post a screen from your options/config page (REX and ASv6.5) and If you are using WideFS, how are you using REX and ASV6.5 together etc... I'm pretty sure we can figure what's causing you problems.regards,Igor
April 5, 201115 yr I was perfectly happy with the old version of AS (V6 actually, not even 6.5 lol). However, I started flying Eaglesoft's Citation X which means I am almost always flying above FL410. I switched to ASE because it has data available up to 490, and it is usually quite accurate and matches computer flight planning software that I have access to. So, switching really depends on your needs. I care more about accurate aloft data for temperature and winds, not eye candy clouds. I do find that ASE has a bigger hit on performance, especially when downloading new data, but this is to be expected on this 7 year-old PC which will be history soon, yay!
April 5, 201115 yr ASE allows for better wind, storm, etc simulations. It's also great for FSX when you finally make that leap. In this case, newer is better and more feature rich.I'm hoping everyone here suggesting the older of the two has tried both. :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

I have REX for textures only and AS6.5 for weather engine only. Finally I use FSNavigator for nav. I have started using FSX lately with my new build. However I have only been doing scenic VFR flying. The ORBX scenery is amazing. Anyway, here is a screenshot from Active Sky. April 5, 201115 yr Hi,You are getting the VAS messages because you have VAS checked On, but that is a pretty normal mode. You get good up and down drafts then. The more you use both FS9 and FSX, the more you should purchase ASE.

April 5, 201115 yr How substantial are the differences in data?BrynAS6.x only shows upper data for up to 39000'. I found that after that the winds would just become less, and the temperature would lapse at the ISA rate, so any match with my flightplans was mere coincidence. With ASE it pretty much always matches within reason--obviously it wouldn't be realistic if it was bang on, some variance is nice! Here is a flight I did yesterday in the upper levels, flightplan wind (Navtech) and temperature on the left, actual ASE value on right:F410 270/25 M62 : 262/30 M62F450 260/37 M64 : 260/34 M63F450 250/34 M67 : 258/32 M64F450 250/33 M68 : 241/40 M67
