November 26, 200322 yr Just wanted you guys oppinions on the new computer Im about to buy. I dont have a lot of loot so this is about all I can get right now.Processor 2.8 GHz (HT) Intel Pentium 4 Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Memory 1 GB DDR / PC3200 (2 DIMM) Hard Drive 80 GB 7200 Primary CD/DVD Drive 48x max. CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive (48x24x16x48x) Front Productivity Ports 2 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394, 7-in-1 reader Graphics Card 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800® w/ TV-out & DVI cap. Sound Card Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with front audio portsSo will this system be ok for running FS9?Thanks for your help in advance.
November 26, 200322 yr I'm no expert in these matters but it certainly looks pretty good. One thing I would say though. An 80 gig hard drive looks like a lot of space but it sure gets eaten up quickly by XP, FS9 and a few addons :-) If the cash can stretch just a little bit more then I would get a bigger disk. Mind you, you could always get a second disk later on if needed :-hmmmDavid
November 26, 200322 yr Get smaller second disk they are cheap and use for critical backups. Make sure your primary 80gb disk spinsat 7200rpm. Fs2004 runs better with good access times.Dick Boley KLBE regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
November 26, 200322 yr Couple of things:Take a look at the Sapphire version of the 9800, might see it saves you some bucks over the retail ATI. It is a reference card so there is no real reason to pay ATI prices.Your DVD combo drive, take a Peak at the Plextor 708A, it does some nifty things and is dead silent even at speed. A bit pricy, but it actually seems to be worth the $$$.You don't list a motherboard type, which can really make or break your system with stability. If your motherboard supports raid0, you might want to think about a second hard disk. Striping a couple of cheaper drives together gives you a nice performance boost.
November 26, 200322 yr I would agree on the bigger hard drive recommendation. They fill up fast. The difference (installed price) to upgrade to 120 GB is only about $20-25.Also be sure and get a good CD burner such as Plextor. It will be about $40.00 more, but it's quite the work-horse. And it supports sub-codes (many burners don't) in case you get into some other things such as karaokes and other types of "images".Check out:http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/home.htmfor some great prices, and price comparisons in their configurator. November 27, 200322 yr Thanks for all the help guys! I am gonna take your advice and purchase the larger hardrive (160 GB 7200 rpm Ultra DMA Hard Drive). So these are the specs as it stands now.Processor 3.2 GHz (HT) Intel Pentium 4 Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Memory 1 GB DDR / PC3200 (2 DIMM) Hard Drive 160 GB 7200 rpm Ultra DMA Hard Drive Primary CD/DVD Drive 48x max. CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive (48x24x16x48x) Front Productivity Ports 2 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394, 7-in-1 reader, ArcSoft Graphics Card 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 w/ TV-out & DVI cap Sound Card Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with front audio portsIm not gonna purchase a CD burner because I already have a Plexter burner. Should this be enough to get good results with FS9? (Im not buying this for FS9 but it would be nice if it runs good on this machine)Is the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra a better card than the 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800? Because that is my other option. As always thanks for you help in advance.
November 27, 200322 yr Commercial Member Is that a 9800 Pro or just a regular 9800? The Pro is gonna be faster and the new XT even faster still... I believe the pro and the XT both won over the 5950 - especially in the area of framerate consistency and image quality. Go to www.hardocp.com and read their 9800 XT review - they show FS9 screenshots from both cards and it's very apparent that the 5950 has problems with blurry ground textures that the 9800 doesn't.Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

November 27, 200322 yr >One thing I would say though. I have trouble filling my $20 GB drive.I would personally sacrifice 80 GB and instead by super fast Western Digital Raptor. But this is just me - 37 GB is LOTS of space for me.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
November 27, 200322 yr If you get the ASUS P4C800E Delux MB to go with that, you can OC the chip to 3.36 gig with a mere click of the mouse in the bios if you have enough air cooling.Best,Clay
