Gigabyte Cancels P67 Program, Moves to Z68

Featured Replies

Normally I wouldn't clog the hardware forum with stuff so indirectly related to flight sim (this isn't exactly a computer forum after all), but considering the events of the past couple months and the rarity of such a recall of this scale I thought it was appropriate. If you are looking at building a new Sandy Bridge system soon, my advice is wait for Z68. Rumor has it set to release on May 8th. And if you still haven't swapped your B2 motherboard for a B3, just wait until Z68, return your B2 board for a refund, and purchase a Z68!Perhaps it's just the tarnished image of P67 due to the recall, but Gigabyte obviously sees something in Z68 worth going for if they are going to completely remove P67 from their lineup. Or perhaps they realize P67 seems to be somewhat troublesome in general?news source

I think Gigabyte had one of the best P67 boards with the UD7, and I don't normally like Gigabyte. Cancelling development on a platform that's effectively going to be dead in less than a month isn't a bad thing. It's smart business.

I dunno. Gigabyte has been struggling with their P67 BIOS big time. Maybe they just gave up altogether. If my rev B2 board doesn't fail, the only reason why I might upgrade is to be able to resell it for a good price. But I'm too lazy for that, so I will prolly just stick with it and get a new board for Haswell or Ivy Bridge if needed

ALL motherboard manufacturers have been struggling with their BIOS. Perhaps P67 is just an unstable chipset...

Certainly worth hearing more! I will be watching this closely. Thanks Corey!Kind regards,

the p67 and z68 are basically the same chipset, the later one has a link to use on cpu gpu and oc which I would disbale and ssd support; don't think bios will differ much between the two and overclocking headaches will be the same as its the same platform of 1155. My ud5 b3 is ok now finally, if it acts up I will go z68 as the shop said I can exchange it, but mine is stable enough and boots ok, so I am ok until the next platform comes out next year assuming it contines running well with the latest beta bios:) A little discouraging they are getting rid of the p67 line though; what a waste, but they are identical chipsets so it kinda makes sense to have just one line. I would have waited on the recall for my b3 though had I have known, not to get a z68, as I feel they will be the same overclocking and stability issues as p67, but to not buy into a line of discontinued items. Oh well 2011 is around the corner and ivy...this is a fun game this techno stuff.

Haha, solid list! I nearly ran out of breath reading it... Applause.gifJust saw that Gigabyte Z68X-UD7-B3 is already on sale in Taiwan (find more here). As expected, it looks identical to the P67A-UD7, but it does include EFI bios. Regardless of access to the on board GPU, it apparently doesn't include any video ports (thank God, who needs them!). I imagine and hope they will not include video ports on the higher end mobos. I also wish they didn't include the -B3 in the naming convention. I really liked the shorter X##X-XX# naming scheme.mru3hv.jpg

Seems fake as they write... I would rather believe that, given the nature of the internet. How weird that on Gigabyte website itself there is no mention of this?! :Hypnotized:

It seems to me to indicate that there will be no advantage to overclocking for FSX purposes. The difference seems to be more or less just confined to allowing the graphics portion of the CPU to be overclocked whereas the H67 and P67 series boards would not. Kind regards,

Thank for the info Corey , just bought a GB UD-5 B3 last week. I feel gutted.
And I have a UD4.... I don't feel wronged.... meh... the second you buy your parts new stuff is always coming out!

There will be no differences that an FSX user will notice, oc potential will be the same as it is still the same 1155 plaltform, only if you want to use intergrated graphics and ssd cache. EFi bios is ok. My bios is good now and I am liking my b3 ud5 all bios issues are gone from my move from ud4 b2:)

Simon
Yes, but don't normally render a mobo line up obsolete within 2 months of release.
Well, now you have an excuse to get the next best mobo hehe

Well here it is straight from Gigabyte:

The industry reports about GIGABYTE cancelling all P67 projects and moving 100% to next gen Intel 6 series chipset models are misleading and unfounded. GIGABYTE will continue producing P67 chipset motherboards until the end of 2011, and the H67 models are expected to be available well into 2012. However, it is true that GIGABYTE is aggressively preparing a full range of motherboards based on next gen Intel 6 series chipsets for the enthusiast, power user and mainstream market segments. These models will boast all the rich features available from Intel’s latest chipset and CPU offerings together with some exciting new GIGABYTE proprietary technologies. We appreciate the excitement and enthusiasm regarding GIGABYTE’s next generation 6 series chipset motherboards, and look forward to a quick ramp in the weeks and months to come.
My apologies for spreading the rumor. I will still be waiting to swap for a Z68, however.
