Does such an app exist?

Does anyone know if there is an iphone app that acts as a spotting logbook? I mean so I can log the planes I have seen, like you would do by crossing the number off in a spotters book. I'm not a big time reg spotter, more a video/photography guy but I do like to keep a record if I can. Andy S

Dunno about an app for a phone, but there's an invention that's been around a while you may have seen called a small notepad and a pen. Remarkable thing, needs no batteries at all, has built in handwriting recognition and cannot crash and lose its data. :( Al

Never mnd the luddites! The advantage of an iPhone app is:1. Use GPS coordinates to correlate with real-time TRACON database available over the web,2. If you develop the app you could make enough to buid your next PC + Flight + Add-Ons for free :-)Cheers,- jahman.

Keep an eye on Inquisitive Graphics in the future, same developer of FSKneeboard in my signature and the Premiere Aviation Apps line of products, I don't think you'll be disappointed ;)

1 - Can you please direct me to this database.2 - If only that were the case, LOLFurther - yes this is an idea that has been toyed with, but no development has been started. I'd love to hear about anyone's ideas about what an app like that would entail though since I'm not a spotter myself.

Good Point Jahman....the Iphone already knows where in the world it is and what time it is. All you would have to do is enter what plane you spotted and take a quick shot of it with the Camera on the Iphone (or your other Camera gear). Sounds like a good App to me :(

It would be good if it could be linked to Flightradar24 or similar. ie you just press a button on the plane symbol to say you have seen it. Alternatively just one where you enter the reg number then it stores it, much like the lists in traditional spotting books. Andy S

See Flight Aware Live Flight Tracking. The iPhone App could even be of the VR-kind by superimposing the flight number, aircraft make and model and flightplan onto the screen (all configurable by the spotter).Cheers,- jahman.

Well that data is very expensive, I thought you meant you were aware of a free database that the FAA was now putting out. I'm not sure if that data is 5 minutes delayed like their website is either. if it is delayed, that would make any spotting related purposes pretty useless.Flight aware does have an app that will display a live map for wherever you're at but in my experience it really didn't work well.
