Question regarding Venetubo.com

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,I am trying to tweak my FSX to the best using Venetubo.com. BTW thanks to ******* for his work! However, I have serious doubt about my processor if it is a 4 cores or a 2 cores and what number I should indicate in Venetubo setup...I use a laptop with I5 M460. I am not good at computer stuff but I searched on the web and wikipedia says : I5 M460 2 cores / 4 threadsIn task manager on the processor tab I can see 4 cores : Core 0 and Core 2 are written black, and Core 1 and Core 4 are greyed out and called "integrated"Well, Venetubo is asking for core/ threads number so you know what I mean : 2 or 4?If someone can help on that, I''ll be very happy^^And just one more question: How can I know if I have hyperthreading On or Off and how can I switch HT off? (because if I understood well HT OFF is best?)Thanks in advance!Pierre Lainé

Hi,2 actual, physical cores. You turn off HT in your BIOS that starts everytime you boot, before Windows loads.

Thank you Jim.I understand I have 2 physical core. Is it the nnumber I should tell to Venetubo?I tried to go to the bios but did not find anything related to HT. If I understand well, the fact that I can see 4 cores is due to HT?Pierre Lainé

Yes tell it you have 2 cores.*******'s tweaks caused me a few problems and I had to revert back to my old settings. Whilst it saves a copy of your fsx.cfg I had mine backed up anyway. In saying that, It seems that a lot of people have benefitted from his tweaks and this service, so maybe I'm just unlucky or I've got FSX working as well as it can on my system (which I have to say is pretty well and I get very few stutters or CTDs)IAN

Turn off HT? Why that's positively silly. :)I run six cores with HT and fly FSX without any issues whatsoever. Why would I want to cripple my system??Oh, and if you have 2 cores with HT enabled... the correct 'answer' would be 4.

Weren't there some tests that proved HT is useless for FSX and NickN also says that? The only thing you get with HT on (if only using your computer for FSX) is +10°C so if you're OCing you can't go as high as you could without HT. That's how I understand the situation.

From my experience that's absolutely true.If you only use your PC for gaming then turn off HT as it's mostly used for faster video encoding.
