May 13, 201115 yr I assume you guys at PMDG won't correspond, if the is a odd question. But i'm hoping that one of you guys, or PMDG could tell me wich model the NGX is based on? Or if it is based on any model? I'm asking this question because some -800 have sliding carpet, and has something to do with how tou lod the aircraft. Some -800 models with no sliding carpet can have all luggage in cpt. 3 or 2/3 in cpt. 3 and the rest in cpt. 4.But if the aircraft have sliding carpet, most of the captains want to have 1/3 luggage in cpt. 2 and the rest in cpt. 3This has great influence on the CG. May 13, 201115 yr Martin are you talking about the optional sliding floors in the cargo holds? We had something like that in the forward cargo hold of the CRJ-700/900. Ours was installed because a person couldn't fit in the underfloor cargo hold so you had to have a way to get the bags back to the door once you pushed them all the way in. I think the ones on bigger airplanes are there mainly to facilitate faster loading and unloading. Considering how many other tiny details are modeled on the NGX that we know about I wouldn't be surprised if it was modeled. Then again from what I saw of the load manager in the video you just put the bags you want in the zone you want them in. Who knows. Whatever PMDG does it will be very authentic and realistic.Hiram Hunt
May 13, 201115 yr Author Martin are you talking about the optional sliding floors in the cargo holds?Yes precise! Norwegian has it in some of their arcraft, and many other scandinavian airlines, including SAS have it to. May 13, 201115 yr Commercial Member The NGX is based on several real world aircraft actually - the main one that was the source for most of the cockpit photos though is an active in-service 800WL. The thing is we have so many options that it's really hard to say "it's this specific aircraft" at this point. Meaning the aircraft can fly with the system inoperable, and in my experience with rampies of any sort, give them a toy and it breaks. It gets differed and can take weeks to get fixed. Keeping in mind it is a rubber belt and when its INOP it accually greatly inhibits the ability to "pass" (I use that term loosely) bags in the huge holds of the -800s. WestJet leased delta 800s for its launch in to YYZ over a decade ago, they had the sliding carpets installed and "MEL'ed", and we hated them. Im glad WJ eventually ordered the NG's including the 800s without the carpets. Instead we bought a bunch of beltloaders called the "mongoose" that had a retractable and steerable conveyor belt that snaked its way in to the aircraft. Easier and cheaper to use and maintain. You touched on a few points about where the captain likes the C of G. And on the 800s you are correct we calculate total payload for the pits, and always must put at least 40% of that total weight in the FWD pit to prevent tipping during boarding and unboarding. Unfortunattly for fuel burn the 800 is very much like the 700 and enjoys a optimal fuel burn C of G well aft in the 23-27% area (depending on weight) which is not usually achevible following the 40/60 rule.700s are different that the AFT should be full before putting bags FWD. This does not happen every flight as we are also trying to keep the aircraft organized for the ramp (Local, Thru, Connection bags/cargo get separated) as a disorganized flight can cause delays more costly then the difference in fuel burn. May 14, 201115 yr Author Im a ex rampie and current weight and balance guy for the NGs.Nice yo hear! I'm a loadmaster in Billund, Denmark and we quite often planes with sliding carpet here. But i can't relate to your loading, we are often loading an aircraft with sliding carpet 20% i FWD and the rest in the AFT. For thoose without sliding carpet we load 70% in CPT. 3 and the rest in CPT. 4 (Depending on the captain and Charter or route)But again it varies from company to company and modeltype. May 14, 201115 yr The magic carpets are nice to a point.. most of the time there a pain in the neck and its easier to load the bins without using them... You can always tell when a new guy is loading the bin with a magic carpet, they usally have to unload after noticing that the carpet is already fully extended... hahaThanksJR JR
