May 29, 201115 yr I know this is off topic, but I'm asking in this forum because there are a lot of people who know stuff here. I actually get answers here quicker than on topic specific forums. That said, I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the touchdown smoke on FSX is a little unrealistic compared to what I see on real life videos, so I was wondering if anyone has ever come across a third party fix of some sort? Thanks Chidiebere Anyahara
May 29, 201115 yr I think It is to do with the [contact points] that written by the producer, and also with the landing gear animation. Some aircraft like POSKY's landing gear is controlled by XML, which can make the landing gear feels more realistic. Some aircrafts can have smoke twice but some only once. Z. C

May 29, 201115 yr Commercial Member The touchdown smoke has nothing to do with what PMDG controls in our products. Our groud contact points are set up accurately, tyres and struts don't sink into the ground up to their axles etc.The touchdown smoke effect is actually an FSX effect that can only be tweaked by the users. There are several touchdown effects tweaks on avsim's file library and elsewhere. The effect is just a bitmap and I'm sure somebody somewhere has done realistic looking touchdown smoke bitmaps. It's worth exploring I'd say...Back to the NGX I go...Cheers, Jason Brown - Exterior Model Engineer,http://www.precisionmanuals.comSpecs: MSI Z97 Gaming 7 | Intel i7 4970K OC @ 4.6GHz | Gigabyte GTX970 G1 4GB | 16GB (2X8GB) G.Skill Trident | Corsair Air 540 White Case | Corsair AX750 750W PSU | 27" Samsung SyncMaster 275T+ | 27" Samsung S27D850 | 13" Wacom Cintiq | Windows 10 Professional x64
May 29, 201115 yr Exactly. There are several effect files inside the 'Effects' folder of FSX. For examplefx_tchdwn.fxfx_tchdwn_s.fxfx_tchdwn_m.fxfx_tchdwn_l.fxThey need texture files in the texture folderfx_1.bmpfx_5.bmpor fx_smoke.bmpFor editing those files I can recommend you this website: http://msdn.microsof...y/cc526969.aspxObviously there is a Special Effect Tool from SDK but I haven't found out yet how to use it.I am using touchdown smoke from this website here, it is much more realisitc than any other I found by now: http://voodoo.wikisp...uchdown+Effects Jan-N. May 30, 201115 yr I still use Nick Needham's touchdown affects files in FSX, even though they were originally released for FS9. There are different affects for different size aircraft. Zip is still available here in the AVSIM library:http://library.avsim...misc&DLID=74518 Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
