July 4, 201114 yr Hi all folks.I wonder if it is possible to hack the .AIR/FLight Dynamics Engine file which include aerodynamics and other important elements. The problem is it is hardcoded in binary format. What do you guys thinking about it ?
July 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member Why? What do you think it would achieve exactly?Better handling characteristics. Sounds like a good idea...wonder if it would work... Brandon Filer
July 6, 201114 yr I repeat, what would it acheive exactly? How would it give better handling characteristics? Gerry Howard
July 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member The only thing I see PhysX offering that FS doesn't have is better ground handling. The primarly problem with FS ground handling is tire behavior on the ground. The biggest flight dynamics issue I see with FS is the fact that the fluid dynamics of air isn't actually modeled. However, 'hacking' the .air file isn't going to do a thing for that. July 6, 201114 yr Is PhysX capable of modelling fluid dynamics and, if so, can it model the flow around an aircraft in sufficient detail for flight Simulation? Gerry Howard
July 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member If PhysX would help, maybe something similar to what Accu-sim does would be accomplished - cut out part of the engine and replace it with their own. Brandon Filer
July 6, 201114 yr But can PhysiX really help? That is my basic question. The fact that it's called a physics engine doesn't mean it can model every physical system. Can it, for example, model a six-degree-of- freedom model at all - never mind better than FSX? Commercioal flight simulators emply a six-degree-of-freedom model as does flight simulator. The input data is much more detailed and accurate, but the underlying physical principles are the same. Gerry Howard
July 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member If you're going to use a new engine to control the movement of the aircraft then why would you need to worry about the air file?Just do your calculations and then use simconnect to move the position of the aircraft (I think simconnect can do that though I've never done it myself). www.antsairplanes.com

I seriously doubt if PhysX can provide that. To be honest, I seriously doubt that PhysX can make a contribution to flight dynamics for Flight Simulator but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise if someone can explain how it would achieve it better than the present technique. T'would be a big task creating your own aerodynamic model. www.antsairplanes.com
