Featured Replies

Pilots, I am looking at fs global 2010 and would want to know what exactly are they giving in those 12 DVD's and what difference will it make ? Would it also effect the frame rates ?

Hi,I used FS Global 2010 when I was playing FS9 ( waiting my new PC for FSX ).I think that it's the same on both FS version.FS Global 2010 is a world mesh update. Concretly, all points of all grounds of all the world will be at the right altitude. With this addon, FS doesn't looks like a no man's land. You will be impressed by the differents mountains !I recommand it because FS is so linear ... But a negative point is the installation of this addons, very long and slow ! Don't forget to defragment you hard drive after the install.Enjoy your flight.

But would it affect the FPS ? Yeah i know installation , but how would the visuals look , would it be much finer then the default fsx visuals.

I have used FSGlobal for several years now. Both FS9 and FSX. I now have FSGlobal 2010 + FSGlobal Ultimate America's + FSGlobal Ultimate Europe & Africa. It adds a HUGE amount of meshdata increasing elevational differences in the landscape you fly over to unbelievable precision. The effect is most noticeable in mountain regions, but even on relative flat lands you can see big improvements. And the best is; there is virtually no impact om the FPS. Only disadvantage I see (but that might be solved by faster HDD's or use of an SSD), when flying very fast (>300kt) at a low altitude (< 3000ft above terrain) over mountains, the building of the ridges and peaks lags behind. But in my case, I hardly ever fly that low that fast, so I don't really consider this as a problem. Conclusion: For me FSGlobal is an absolute must-have addon, together with ASE, REX, UTX and GEX.Hope this helps.

What exactly is ASE, i know ReX, UTX, Gex and these are frame hogger's always hungry.

fwerff you said all =DNo FPS impacts for amazing details. Becareful that it's only a mesh, the ground textures will be the same !ASE is the best addon to simulate the weatherREX is the best addon for sky textures ( and more )UTX is the best addon for ground textures.GEX is the best addon for ground activity. You realy need to have all of these.Fly 4 fun !

In one word Yes.FS Global is definately worth it.

I own FS Global Ultimate "The Americas". If there is any Framerate jump, it is extremely low. Installation took forever.. It's a great add on though.-Damien

UTX is NOT ground textures (it does include a few for some of the features) it is accurate coastlines, roads, rivers, and urban (with some vegeatation and non urban) landclass and a few other bolt on features like extra traffic etc.GEX is what provides the upgraded ground textures and optimized autogen. As for mesh, in my opinion, there is only one player in town worth using - FSGenesis. You may also want to consider the Orbx FTX series for region specific brilliance. (Currently Australia and North West USA and Canada) FTX region packs include mesh, ground textures and all the UTX style features in one package.

I know about UTx as i did use UT for fs9. Also have GEpro for fs9 (cool) , fsgenesis hmm ok i say am dumb about meshes and landclasses i do not understand what they are.Orbx will eat away all the good fps i have now. And i currently fly in bombay-INDIA, hence austrailia would be unfamiliar territory.Europe - Netherlands should be cool as i have flown down there HEY NOT IN RL :( wish i can :), just doing some virtual training which involves physics & basic maths for flying till i get enuf green to fly an aircraft one day in RL.

Little confusion into my spirit, yes i mean that UTX is for detailed infrastructures, that's the word, not textures ^^I haven't tried FSGenesis yet, i'm going to have a look on it.Orbx series are awesome and really look like MS Flight ! My dream is a full world packs by ORBX :(

FSGlobal 2010 has some ugly spots. For example, the region around Florence/Italy is flawed, with holes and table mountains. It also displays anomalies in the border region between Salzburg and Bavaria (in a lake, there is a large water mountain. And it tends to let some lakes in Austria run partly dry.Personally, whilst I have installed FSGlobal 2010, I like FSGenesis world mesh better.

Thank you for your review. I will test it on my new PC next week :(

Mesh is simply elevation data. Its the 'mesh' (wireframe world) which the textures then sit on top of. The better the mesh resolution (lower numbers are better) the more accurate the mountains and elevation data will be. For instance, FSX ships with 38m elevation data for the USA. FSGenesis gives you 9m elevation data.Landclass files tell FSX which textures to put where for each region. Landclass files break the world down into (if I remember correctly) 1km square blocks. FSX can call a speerate texture file for each 1km square. This way it is possible to have urban and non urban areas look close to how they do in the real world in terms of layout. In a nutshell, mesh is the canvas, landclass is the outline drawing and textures are the paint.
