July 12, 201114 yr As this was the first time I saw a Me262 flying IRL, I thought I'd upload 2 pics from Airpower 2011...Best regardsBernt
July 13, 201114 yr How was the noise? I watched the live stream, but engines couldn't be heard. On an interesting side note, I've heard somewhere, that pilots don't use max thrust with modern engines during TKOF, because the rudder isn't large enough https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
July 13, 201114 yr Incredible shots! Hard to imagine this Warbird is 60+ yrs old.So far ahead of her time. 100%75%50%d8a34be0e82d98b5a45ff4336cd0dddc Patrick
July 14, 201114 yr AFAIK this 262 is equiped with the GE CJ610 engine which has much more power than the original Jumo 004. Even with the Jumo engines the Vmca was very high due to the small rudder so there's no way the could use max thrust with the new engines. As there's no ammunition and no armor the higher thrust isn't needed anyway. She was surprisingly quiet, most probably due to the tiny engines buried in the long nacelles. With the camo and the 'missing' jet sound she looked more like a big RC model, LOL.I always stay outside of the crowd area, like in this case exactly behind the threshold because there's no music or entertainer interfering with the engine sound.

July 22, 201114 yr Luckily for the Allies...A beautiful aircraft it may be, but I for one am glad the leaders of the country in which it was designed and built either didn't know or didn't understand its real potential. In great enough numbers, it could have changed the face of the air war in Europe...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
