July 20, 201114 yr If American went for the A320 instead, wouldn't they have to change their name to European? :( Cheers,- jahman.
July 20, 201114 yr Moderator American decided to split their order:American orders 460 new planes from Boeing, Airbushttp://forum.avsim.net/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=reply_post&f=120&t=339888 Fr. July 20, 201114 yr Author Well I wish it could go all one way but it is nice to at least get some money rolling in. I can't wait to see how this new LEAP-X engine performs. Chris Miller
July 31, 201114 yr Now with the USD is tanking vs. the Euro, I hope American rethinks how many Airbuses vs. Boeing aircraft it purchases. Cheers, - jahman.

When the time comes to buy the aircraft and the quantity discounts that they give I'm pretty sure it shouldn't matter too much. Chris Miller

July 31, 201114 yr I think that speed of delivery plays a big role in all of this. If you ordered Boeing or Airbus exclusively you would wait for one company to deliver your orders. If you order from both you have 2 companies delivering jets simultaneously. Last time I flew AMR was on the MD80 fleet and that stuff is getting old. The sooner they replace the better. CheersThat's a very good point you've raised! American could be projecting a market opportunity that needs filling asap, or they are approaching a point where existing 737's need replacement quickly due to increasing maintenance costs. Cheers, - jahman.
August 1, 201114 yr , or they are approaching a point where existing 737's need replacement quickly due to increasing maintenance costs. I think it is more the MD-82 and MD-83's that is an issue for them. They currently have 220 of them that really need replacing. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
August 1, 201114 yr Author Boeing easily has the capacity to do the whole order but American decided not to go that way for whatever reasoning. In Renton they still have another line available for aircraft and in it's current state the factory could pump out 45-55 aircraft per month. If they add the other line they could conceivably send out 75 aircraft a month. That's a very good point you've raised! American could be projecting a market opportunity that needs filling asap, or they are approaching a point where existing 737's need replacement quickly due to increasing maintenance costs. Cheers, - jahman. They have 737-800's hopefully they don't need replacing already. Chris Miller
