July 27, 201114 yr G'day All, It's been many moons since I last posted but I have just reinstalled Fly II and patches up to 240 on a new computer. However on selecting some aircraft (the Hawker and Pilatus + others ) I get the CTD with the message " Invalid guage identifier ( ABSW )". Can anyone please identify what's my problem and how to cure it.As if one problem is not enough I also on startup sometimes get a CTD with the message " Subsystem not registered : SEFX ". Hope you can assist, thanks in advance.Cheers,Roger Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png

All I know to do with that is just try starting up until she "catches". One suggestion is to constantly Defrag your HDD (weekly should be enough). That has lessened this particular one for me, at least. As for the CTDs on switching out aircraft - that one is a bit tougher to answer, especially when dealing with original Fly!II A/C. About the only suggestions I can make is to see what you can find on AVSIM for the little patches. Hopefully your version is more based on US release and not European, as I know I have most of those for US release. European patches are gonig to be much harder to come by, unless you wish to get the DVDs from ROTW Group. I believe they included the Euro specific patches. As it is just after 2AM my time as I write this, I will get some shut-eye and once awake again, will see what I have and let you know. If you PM me your current email addy, I will send you the list and make arrangements for you to get what you require.Good to hear from you, Roger! Many Cheers!Ken ___________________________ Kenneth E Wood Jr 🌪️🌩️ ex AG1, USN (14yr Vet) Weather Foecaster
July 27, 201114 yr G'day Roger,I have compiled a listing of relevant patches I have (US Release for TRI patches) and 3rd party tweaks/patches that may be relevant. They are:ac_defaultfix ac_default_fix2 - above and this added some 3rd party stuff like centerpost, auto throttle / brake buttons, etc.aurora rmi fix - gets RMI needles working.Bell407fixV7 - patch to help smooth some anomaliesBell407FixV8 - inclusive patch to help smooth some anomaliesFlyhawkfix1 - Rob Young enhancementsHawkerACVoltsfix - The ac volt gauge was not connected. Gauge is now connected to acSS (AC selector switch).LM_KodiakEngFix - Leon Medado - props to counter-rotateLM_Fly!2Seat_Fixes - Leon Medado - adjusts CAM to more(?) realistic positionsNavajoPatch1 - Fixes alternator bug. Renames plane as "Piper Navajo" and replaces the "Piper" radio call sign.ry_pilatusfix - Rob Young enhancements - ground handling mainly.tri3gpsKAir200 - Bosco Leal - adds Bendix GPS to B200Fly!II 152 to 210 patch - TRI -US releaseFly!II patch to 230 - TRI -US releaseFly!II patch to 240 - TRI -US releaseFlyII Global Update1 - This should clear up many of the "blocky" coastlines in Europe. Two TRI video updates - most likely not needed if running on newer computer. But must tweak out Render.ini again.Lots of Map fixes by Rob Westhouseaustralian waypoints - Mark Armstrong - ESRA2001 data. (grin)fly2_landing_taxi_light_tweak - Andy Dale - widens arc and gives more amber colour. If running Win Vista or Win 7, did you remember to change the icon properties to allow program to run as Administrator and/or set Compatibility to Win98? Perchance did you save any of your prior tweaks to a back-up, and apply them? They may require a little more tweaking. You most likely remember, but did you set SearchPodFilesFirst to zero in Fly.ini file?Let me know what else I can do!Cheers, ___________________________ Kenneth E Wood Jr 🌪️🌩️ ex AG1, USN (14yr Vet) Weather Foecaster
July 29, 201114 yr Author G'day Ken, How are you going mate? It has been a long time since I posted. I remember that you were going through a tough period for a while - I hope that things are a lot better for you now. I had a minor calamity, a hard drive failure and unfortunately lost much, but not all, of my Fly II stuff.New computer, new ISP ( yeehah - goodbye dialup, now got broardband :-) ), I decided to reload Fly II. I've got six copies of the various variants of Fly! so I loaded the American one. Luckilly I still have all the major patches for upgading the American copy up to the latest patch 240. I went into Avsim library and found half of it is missing. I reloaded 3 aircraft of mine that were missing ( Beaver, Twin Pioneer and Otter ). I note that some of TRI's patches etc are gone as well. Has anyone tried contacting Terminal Reality asking for permission to repost the patches. I don't think they would have any objections. Now to my problem. Whilst I had kept backups of the major Tri patches I didn't keep any of the smaller aircraft specific mods. If its not too much to ask would you be able to zip them all up znd email them to me please. FYI my email has changed so dont use the email in my profile. I tried to change it in my profile but there is no way possible to do this. My new email is [email protected] ( remove the full stop so that it reads rogermaz )I think Guage (ABSW) is an anti-skid switch. I'm hopeful that one of the small patches may correct this fault. The funny thing about System not registered (SEFX) on startup is that if I try to reboot Fly II it boots up OK.New computer but loaded with Win XP specifically to avoid any conflicts that either Vista or Win 7.0 may have with Fly! II.Thanks for your help, Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png
July 29, 201114 yr Roger, did you originally develop some add-on (either payware or freeware) for the first FLY! Or am I confusing you with some other R.M.? It was indeed long time ago. Michael J.
July 30, 201114 yr Author G'day Michael, It has indeed been a while. No I did not do any development for the original Fly! however I was quite active on the Avsim forum during the heady days of receiving a patch every few weeks. That release went from Fly! to Fly!2K and only lasted for 2 years before Fly! II released, albeit universally agreed as premature, in 2001. It was with the release of Fly!II that I first started doing repaints and then progressed on to having a go at producing aircraft. I remember you very distictly. Back in those days the forum had "life", "passion". Simmers were very vocal about issues. The floating horizon lineThe Command bars and the flight director. How times have changed.Even on that other flight sim forum (still can't bring myself to say it :-) ) things have gone quiet. How's Larry these days?, do you have any contact with him? The pair of you made quite a formidible team on the forum.Racking my brain the only other R.M. I can think of is Roy Mertons. I sure he did an application for Fly! but for the life of me I can't come up with what is was, "cabin calls" seems to be stuck in my mind. He is most likely the R.M. you are thinking of. Unfortunately the library has been decimated for Fly! addons. I trust the years have kind to you and that you are still enjoying your simming, whichever sim you use.Cheers mate, Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png
July 30, 201114 yr Cheers Roger. There was a fellow who developed some aircraft for either Fly or Fly2k but then he lost his daughter to cancer and left the hobby. I recall his was absolute first add on aircraft. He even surprised TRI and Richard Harvey that he managed to do it so quickly. And he had this rather interestingly sounding last name - sort of like yours. But it has been years and it is entirely possible I err somewhere. I have been actually simming very little, the only sim on my PC today is G1000 sim I got from Garmin - to prepare me for real aircraft. Michael J.
August 1, 201114 yr It's great to see some old time names on the forum.STILL miss the good old days ben
August 5, 201114 yr G'day Michael,I think one of the earliest to produce an aircraft was a guy called " Art Barstad " or something very similar. Is he perhaps the person you are thinking of.???I've just had issues with Avsim login relegating me back to a newbie because I changed my email address. Ah what the heck, who cares.Cheers,Roger
August 5, 201114 yr G'day Ben,It's been a while but I have occassionally snuck into the forum for a peek. The good old days were indeed great. It's good to hear from as well.Maybe we should start a reunion topic and see how many come in from the cold? Can't say I'm particularly fond of the format of the new forum. It will take some time to get used to. Take car mate, Cheers,Roger
August 10, 201114 yr Roger,Good to hear from you again. I recently got a new laptop with Win 7 and bought the Simvol DVDs so I could install Fly2 on the laptop along with all the extras that come on the DVDs.Unfortunately I have had several problems , some of which are now sorted out but I still get ctd's particularly on loading up.Once I get going things generally run well with great frame rates. It still is a great sim despite the niggles.Best wishes,Ian

To get the optional extra's. However I decided to load the original American edition of Fly! II as I feel more comfortable working with that release. Most CTD's are either missing DLL's or systems not registered and can be eliminated. I'm am still plagued by "sefx system not registered". It usually only takes a second attempt at bootup and alls well but is is annoying. I can't believe how much "Fly! and Fly! II" have lost from the Avsim library and forums. Many essential developement programs and good info just disappeared into cyberspace. There's a lesson to be learned there. At least the Gruman Cheetah survived. :-) It's good to see you are still simming. I hope the earthquakes haven't affected you or your loved ones too badly.Cheers,Roger

Hi Michael, Could you have been thinking about Doug Moldenhaur (not too sure of the spelling)? Colin
