Some VOXATC thoughts

Featured Replies

I bought VOXATC about a week and a half ago. I'm still learning how to use the program so some of the things that i'm not thrilled with could be a matter of me not having configured it properly. I like the interaction with ATC. It really keeps you working. The real world procedures are also well done. The fact that SIDS/STARS on done on the fly is a big plus. I'm not overly thrilled with the way VOX handles AI traffic.(I use UT2, I used the UT2 bridge) I just completed a flight from Calgary to San Francisco. While there was traffic on the ground at Calgary and it was correct for that airport, once in the air, the skies seemed rather lonely. There was the occasional Westjet or Skywest, but hardly an American, United or Southwest. I didn't actually see any aircraft/contrails once airborne. I was given traffic vectors, but I saw no traffic. The voices are taking some getting used to. I came from ProFlight Emulator, where the voices are done by region. I understand that the voice engine that VOX uses is different and there are not a lot of options in this regard. One other issue that I have is that ATC seems to clear you for your initial descent a long way out. I don't know if there is a way to adjust that or not. All in all, I'm enjoying VOX and will continue to use it in FSX.

Agree with you Mike. VoxATC has always seemed like a nice idea, I bought it back in the 5.X days, was unhappyand stopped. Then I just recently upgraded to the new version. I think the assignment of a SID is very cool, butI see REALLY bizarre things with AI traffic, both on the ground and in the air. I was at KONT for a flight and ratherthan be ANY identifiable traffic the controller was spending ALL her time talking to some small named airline I'venever heard of. BTW, I have UT2 and did the whole setup for that. Those are trivial things to me, but the real issue is handling is flakey, that flight from KONT was a UPS 767, Itook off with an initial clearance to 6000, I filed for cruise at FL340, but once I reached 6000 (very quickly ina 767 as one might expect) i was getting NOTHING, the stupid controller was giving constant repetitive soundingvectors to some poodunk GA plane, I hit 0 and requested an increase, controller responded 'unable at this time',and then went babbling on to that small plane... I mean #####, there was NO other large aircraft around and thedeparture controller is gonna hold a cargo loaded 767 at 6000 ft?????? I was so ticked off i just killed the flight. I have had some kind of issue on approach on every flight I've tried, some I have worked around, but hey, whatI wanted was reasonable AI. I'm VERY disappointed with the product at this point, it needs more than somegimmick like talking in a mic to make something usable...

I've spoken with the developer and he mentioned that traffic is only generated from files flight plans in the departure and destination airports. This means there will be no traffic from enroute airports or others that would cause traffic enroute. This is probably the biggest issue I have with my demo of the program. That and the inflexibility the program has at not following the script which makes it feel at times like voicing a script compared to actually talking organically.

Hi! I am a newly registered user of VOXATC. I believe that this software has the best potential compared to other ATC for FS. Developers, please, fix this issue with the unrealistic AI. Bumpy puschbacks with ut2 and unrealistic schedules only based on dep and arr airports. This is very unrealistic, especially on longer flights and between smaller airport. Does anyone know if there any updates planned in the near future?Peter

I recently tried the 7 day demo and I agree with others in this thread. I really wanted to like VOX but it just didn't handle the AI traffic like I need it to. I've been using UT2 for a while now and it does traffic really well (that's its entire purpose after all). It was difficult to step down from that level of AI traffic. I had other minor glitches with VOX but I think I could have worked those out. So VOXATC was close to getting my money but at $75 US there just wasn't enough to justify it with the drawbacks. I will be keeping my eye on VOXATC though and I hope it improves so I can try again.

No doubt that VoxATC has some problems with AI traffic, but for my part the use of ATC comms outweighs it. During beta test Tegwyn talked about looking into AI traffic as a new feature/module, but I have no idea if any progress has been made yet.

+1Those are my thoughts exactly!! The whole purpose of Air Traffic Control is the control of air traffic! If the handling of AI traffic is nonexistent or poorly implamented then we just have a procedures simulation which doesn't require communication if there is no traffic out there. They got the VOX part right, however they need to work on the ATC part.

+++1 with all of you guys, I got VOX about a week ago, and with all the respect to the developer, I think it is still premature piece of software, it is defiantly not something that will justify the investment of $75. Though, I do enjoy the interaction, but as you guys mention, it does a poor job when it comes to handle traffic separation, on the air and the ground as well, if it not me being a student pilot that find it as way to practice phraseology, I would stay away, and wait for this "Baby" to grow-up a little bit Tounge.gifWish all of ua greatSim weekend YairIrvine CA
