July 31, 201114 yr Hey guys, I am posting to get your guys' input and opinion on a purchase decision. My full rig specs are in my sig, originally I did not plan on upgrading anything until Ivy Bridge comes out, but after watching all of PMDG's latest videos I am contemplating upgrading my graphics card. I currently have an EVGA 275GTX with 896mb of VRAM, and core clock of 648mhz, I am debating purchasing a 560ti Super-clocked, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130651. One thing I should mention, I am running a 24 inch Dell monitor at 1920X1200 resolution. My question is, do I really need this upgrade, will I see anything beneficial from it. I am not going to change anything else yet as I am planning to just build a whole new rig for Ivy, but this is doable in the meantime. My PSU is a Corsair 750 watt so I am good on the power. Any thoughts, suggestions, I appreciate your input. August 1, 201114 yr I just upgraded from a GTX280 OC to a evga GTX570 OC. (i7 950 at 4,2Ghz, 6 GB 6-6-6-24)I noticed a small increase in frame rates BUT I run higher level of AA now (8xSQ + 2x supersampling) while the FSX is much smoother; stutters are greatly reduced with my new card.So I think you should notice a similar performance increase. I opted for the 570 over a 560ti for the extra vram, allowing to run higher levels of AA. Lennart
August 4, 201114 yr .. 280 to 460 and now 560i , 3X22" on TH2g, lot of tweaking. The bottom line , ah, nothing dramatic that hold my breath .....
August 6, 201114 yr Author So with the 560ti what BufferPool setting should I use, what should the reject threshold value be, is there a formula for figuring this number out? August 9, 201114 yr Author Anybody help on the bufferpool reject threshold calculation? August 9, 201114 yr I'm using PoolSize=0 with my 560Ti and it works really well. I had some artifacts with this setting with my previous GTX 285.
August 9, 201114 yr Author So the entry would like like BufferPools UsePools=0 what about reject threshold ? Would that be omitted. Edit: I actually decided to go with this card although haven't purchased it yet, but its got 2 Gigs, wow. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130683 Angelo Cosma PPL ASEL / IFR Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Field Service Representative (SEA) ZSE ARTCC Intel i7 6700K 4.8Ghz / ASUS ROG Maximus Hero VIII / 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz Ram / EVGA 1080Ti FTW3/ Corsair H110i GTX EVGA 850 Watt Gold / Samsung 850 500gb SSD
August 10, 201114 yr I have the 1 gig 560TI, I use "UsePools=0" I experimented with different levels of buffer pools, but "0" works best, I noticed 2 extra FPS in a tightly controlled experiment to find out what tweaks worked the best. Bottom line: I was not satisfied about my GTX570 performance compared to my HD6970 so the ATI card is what I am using at the moment... Thibault Dosunmu
August 14, 201114 yr just because that GTX 560 Ti has 2GB of VRAM doesn't mean it is better than the GTX 570 at all. It is only 256bit and has less cuda cores. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute. ~Gil Stern
