Quick thoughts on the NGX

Featured Replies

Hi folks!I just wanted to share a few thoughts with the PMDG team. This isn't going to be a very organized post because I'm tired. =) I'll just randomly type my thoughts as they come to me. .....Guys, I have no idea how you've done it, but you've done it. This has to be the most stable, rock solid addon ever. (not like I ever doubted) Ah, where to begin...First let me start with a comparison. When I think of FSX, I think unstable. I'm afraid to leave my desk when I'm cruising because FSX has so many weird glitches etc. For example: I was cruising the other day in my CS757. I left my desk for 3 minutes to go to the bathroom, and when I returned, the plane was literally upside down in a backwards dive, with the AP still engaged. My FSPassengers were not delighted, and needless to say, the flight was ruined. What I've realized is that the problem is really not so much with FSX, as with the addons. The NGX has introduced me to what FsX CAN be. I'm cruising right now from YMML-YBBS, and I'll glance over every now and then, to see LNAV and VNAV doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. It's kind of unbelievable. There's no rocking from side to side, no bouncing up and down, the aircraft knows what it's supposed to be doing, and it is sticking to it.Aside from the amazing accuracy and functionality of the systems, the FEEL is incredible. Takeoff and landing have never felt so much like the real airplane. It feels heavy, yet responsive. It's amazing. I can't really identify the specific feeling, but it just feels right. Needless to say, the graphics are simply indescribably good. Yet, the performance is better than some cra**y textured add ons that I own. It's amazing that everything just "works". Before, I would find myself making excuses as to why things didn't work correctly. I wuould say, "Well it just can't happen in FSX I guess." Those days are over, and this is a truly exciting time.I was taken aback by the sounds. They are phenomenal. Each little thing is modeled. Other devs wouldn't even think about modeling the sound to the depth that you did. Even though there are hundreds of different sounds, the engines are my favorite. They are simply awesome. The exterior model is wonderful too! The HGS and TERR are jaw dropping, and it makes me wonder how you ever got these things to work.Oops. As I was typing, I sucked the CTR fuel tank dry and didn't turn off the pumps. Hope that doesn't bite me. Aaanywaay....a couple of other things I noticed were the extreme precision of the VNAV and LNAV modes. Everything is exact and precise. The smoothness of the yoke when in CMD mode is amazing. No more jumping around like the MD11. (no offense) It is silky smooth...as are the throttles in A/T mode. Simply amazing. One super cool thing that I noticed was that the flap extension/retraction auger ACTUALLY spins within the flap fairing. Un-be-flippin-lievable. I have a few shoutouts at the end of this very random and disorganized post:Robert: For leading the team, and having the other developers' back. EMV and Robert: For the simply marvelous systems logic. Ryan: For putting up with the crap in the forum, and answering so many questions. Jason: For the jaw-dropping model. (smoothest [polygon-wise; a circle is not an octagon], and most proportionate ever)Vin: For the painstaking VC texture detail. Also for being social on teamspeak yesterday. Armen: For the best sounds of any FS addon.Pete: For the wonderful, and clear paints. Tech Team and Beta Testers: For the many hours of bug finding before it got into our hands. Nick (AOA): For the truly magnificent videos and great explanations. I think I speak for everybody when I say a big THANK YOU!I propose a virtual round of applause. *cheering*

That was the second thing I noticed (The first being how good looking the VC is). I couldn't believe the feeling on rotation and initial climb. Unlike anything I've felt before in FS, including previous PMDG products. Made me want to go back and do nothing but takeoffs over and over again. Glad to hear you're enjoying her, and hopefully you'll have many hours of incredible flying in the future.
Tech Team and Beta Testers: For the many hours of bug finding before it got into our hands.
Thanks, Ethan. smile.png As a beta tester it's a great feeling to see someone give us thanks. We might not be perfect, and there are always bugs that get through, but we do try our hardest to help PMDG give you guys the most bug free product possible.

Tell me about it. :) PMDG did do very well, I'll agree with you on that! VNAV out of SLC today was amazing. Leveled off at the 1500b without breaking 230 knots. I've never actually flown the departure correctly in autopilot, as I was usually at 300kts by the level off. It was a sigh of relief...an odd virtual stress melted away.

Ethan, I have to second Mike's sentiment and thank you. I have been with the beta team since SP1 of the NG in 2002 or 2003 and this has been the most unbelievable release so far. Thanks for your support. We have been, and are trying to help you guys out the best we can. Cheers,

Your HGS and TERR, displays and lots of other things have been designed and coded by a (super) guy called Alex Bashkatov..

All of the above, but I want to add that I have never seen such beautiful night lighting in a simulation. From the exterior lights to all of the wonderful cockpit lighting. It is beyond words. Spectacular!
