Frustrating autoland issues at YMML

Featured Replies

no i dont think rwy 34 is an ils approach its only a visual approach, so far i tried kjfk, nzaa ybcs and they all work showing the dme so unless ymml ils is under repair than its not working. was testing it using stock 737 fsx not the ngx so was just going transporting to each airport rwy and dialing in the ils freq in the nav to see if was getting the dme readout

I've tried to recreate this about 10 times now, everytime the autoland works... What Paul said is not true, you can dial in the ILS for 16 regardless of where you're taking off from, tried that also.. Only thing I can think of is selecting cmd B too low.. Good luck.. I don't get the DME readout either, but no biggie..

Danieln, The DME readout is irrelevant to the issue. Have you selected "Fail Operational" in the equipment options? I have hotfix 3 installed and no problems Pete
Thats set to default - whatever it is
both flight directors are on? also what altitude were you selecting the second autopilot. You will get that error message if you attempt to set up autoland below 1500ft. You need to be fully configured well ahead of 1500ft and both AP's engaged. The system will then perform a self test at 1500ft before confirming the autoland. If you start messing with the aircraft configuration below 1500ft or only try and engage the second autopilot below that height, the autoland will be rejected. its not a fail passive or operational issue. Both will give you an autoland (unless there is equipment failure). However, in passive you will not get rollout guidance on the runway.
I set the APP and CMD A+B well above 1500ft.
i got no problem with auto land it works good at ymml is that i dont get the dme readout on the pfd when 109.70 is selected on both nav think it mite have to do with the orbox airports since tried at gatwick airport and had no problems got the dme readout on the pfd ps just tried at kjfk no problems so its just ymml mite try with obx scenery off to see if it works or not
That makes me think. Maybe its an Orbx issue? Anyone here that's made a successful autoland on 16 using OrbX YMML SP2?

Seeing as some of you can get YMML to work and others not I would not just automatically blame the hotfix for it. One thing I noticed you haven't mentioned is what scenery and version your using? Are you landing at Stock YMML or ORBX YMML? For the PMDG Dev Team to fix a problem they have to be able to reproduce it consistantly. Kind of hard to do that when some people say it works for me and others say it doesn't because in that case the normal assumption will be that you forgot to set something. So when you are having trouble with a particular airport, it would be helpful if you mention what Airport scenery your using or if it is a stock airport. Last night I did 2 flights and had the same issue. Flew from Madeira (LPMA) to Nice (LFMN) and could not get the Autoland to work on 04L. Then flew from Nice to Dubai and was able to get Autoland to work at the stock Airport on 12R but! Yes it wasn't totally stock cause I was using an updated AFCAD provided by Ray Smith who has done numerous airports all over the world. So yet another variable thrown into the mix. I am still heading down towards Austraila and should be there by tomorrow. Will test ORBX - YMML, YSCB, YBBN, and YBCS and let you know my findings.

Oppps. Left out that I was using Aerosoft LFMN Scenery.

Cheers Paul. I'm going to open a ticket now. I tried another autoland last night at another airport other than melbourne to great success, so I'm out of ideas!

hi i got orbox scenery and the airport ymml i can auto land no problems although i cant get the dme distance on the pfd on any of the orbx aust airports except for ybcs this is the only aiport in aust so far i can get the dme on the pfd so far i tried using the fsx 737 not the pmdg 737ngx so its not the ngx is causing the prob of not getting the dme readout on the pfd so daniel i being more looking at orbox i already put a thread in their forum but havnt got any reply back as of yet

IIRC YMML doesn't have dme on it's 2 ILS runways.Edit: Yep, dme is only for the ML VOR, 114.10.

My method works too, but not in that scenario it doesn't (for YMML). I can't figure if its a NAVIGRAPH issue or something to do with the 737NGX. Confused as buggery! Does anyone else have any ideas? I'll go forward to submitting a ticket if no one else knows!
I had this issue with the MD11 - i also think it is a Navigraph problem - it has to be. Always good with 27 at YMML but 16 always caused me an issue - would never perform an autoland on 16.

Pete. Thanks for investigating. Seems that YMMB said that 16 doesn't have DME. I tried doing another 2 autolandings today and they worked on 16 so its all good now. But I must say its a little unstable! Thanks for the help everyone.

http://www.airservic...ocChartsTOC.htmThis might help: If you use the link above you can get all the "Aerodrome & Proceedure Charts" for most Australian airports. The approach charts for YMML ILS 16 and 27 show no dme is available.

I'm sorry, you're right. My hardcopy folder (a few years old) shows no dme for rwy 16 and yet the current online chart clearly shows there is one. I'll have to fly the runway and see what my ORBX software contains. I don't think the default FSX YMML has one. EDIT: I just found an Airservices Australia doco dated 5 May 2010 showing a schedule to also fit dme to rwy 27 ILS by June 2011 so I would asume that rwy 16 had dme before this date and rwy 27 isn't finished or commissioned yet.http://www.google.co...-eHTakA&cad=rja

Guys the issue here is pretty obvious now. If your flying into Stock YMML and they didn't have DME at Melbourne when FSX was made then it was not included in the AFCAD. If it was added later in the real world then that's why you are not seeing it cause it isn't there in the scenery. Now if ORBX took that into consideration and updated the AFCAD in their ORBX YMML 2.0 scenery to reflect that change then you will see the DME. Real world charts change all the time, thats why AIRACS are released every month. However AIRACS does not change or Update AFCADs in FSX. The ILS and all other information related to an FSX Airport are stored in the AFCAD file for that particular airport. If you want to add a DME to ILS Rwy 16 for the stock FSX Airport, you will have to get a program that allows you to edit the AFCAD. The one most people use is at the link below. http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/ I am on my way to Perth now from Male Atolls which is an 8 hour flight in the 737-800. Will fly over to YMML tomorrow and let you know if ORBX 2.0 has the DME on ILS 16.
