Re-install (FSX and NGX) - no activation for NGX

Featured Replies

Hi, I decided to make a completely fresh install of FSX, to see if the NGX would run better on my system. So I uninstalled the NGX and FSX. I have now fully re-installed both FSX and the NGX; However the NGX is now not asking me for my serial number, or completing any activation process at all. Hence when I load the NGX up, there are no gauges etc. Shocked.gif Can anyone tell me why I'm not getting any activation process happening this time around? My new FSX install is with Acceleration (so SP2 installed) and with no other addons installed, other than the PMDG 747X which was installed just prior to the NGX. Is this happening because I installed the 747X at the same time as the NGX without starting FSX in between? EDIT: Incidentally I also notice no menu options at all for the 747X (the only thing in the PMDG menu in FSX is the 'About PMDG' ; no other options! Help! Thanks,

David.

Tried two further full uninstall / reinstalls of the NGX and still, no activation process, and no gauges/nothing working in the NGX once loaded. What the heck is going on here? Do I need to delete some license file on my system to get the NGX to be able to activate again? I have my order details here but nowhere to enter them is coming up at any stage. Please help. Thanks.

Maybe your FSX install got messed up? Have you tried installing the Ngx as an administrator? I reinstalled FSX and the NGx and it didn't ask me to reactivate, but it still works fine.

I'm on XP so no issues with running as admin. My FSX re-installation went fine, everything else is working. It seems clear from reading other threads on this that there are problems with the NGX's activation process. But for most it is that their serials are accepted - for me I just get no activation process at all? Nowhere to put my license details in. What I'd really like is a response from PMDG to advise the recommended procedure here.

Are you running xp sp3? Like I said I don't think it supposed to ask for activation a second time as mine didn't and it worked fine. I also asked this question once and te response was that it doesn't ask for activation again.

Hi guys, Thanks for trying to help (where is the response from PMDG? ... I thought this was a support forum...). You may well be right that the NGNX doesn't do activation after a re-install, but if that's the case my issue is still serious, because after the re-install, I have no gauges, no clickspots work, hence the plane is dead, in a none activated state. Guys seriously, this purchase/activation experience is proving to be worse than that with the dreaded Ariane !!! Sorry but that really is true.

have u checked if the ddl files have been added into fsx.cfg?
Hi, yes the entries are going into the FSX.cfg, I have tried leaving them there and also deleting them to force FSX to get the 'trusted' permissions again. Neither makes any difference. I also re-downloaded a brand new download of the NGX last night, in case the issue was with my exe ....... made no difference. This is taking days rather than minutes or even hours, to try and use what I have paid for. Sorry guys but unacceptable as I'm sure you'd agree. Clearly the NGX believes it is already activated on my system and is not offering the activation screen at all ...... but the license clearly isn't getting through to my NGX in the sim because as above, it has blacked out gauges, no clickspots and is therefore rather unserviceable.

Hello Stick,You will get a better result if you open a support ticket here:http://support.precisionmanuals.com/Main/Default.aspx

Please read the post above yours Jude, ticket raised. The purpose of this thread is in case any users have encountered this issue, and have managed to resolve it. Summary of the issue:- 1). NGX bought on 12th Aug, installed and activated fine. no issues. 2) NGX uninstalled on 24th Aug and re-installed. 3) Now, upon loading plane there is no re-activation process. When I load the plane into FSX, the 'initiation phase' (for the systems) is not happening, the gauges are blacked out and the plane is essentially in a 'non-activated' state. I have tried 20+ uninstall / reinstalls over the last 2 days of trying to re-activate the aircraft. I have gotten a fresh download of the EXE but again, it makes no difference. No matter which version of the NGX I load, and no matter how I load it (from the free flight screen, or via another aircraft first); - no activation window of any type appears at any stage.- the NGX does not initialize when loaded, gauges remain blacked out and the plane appears 'unactivated'. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hello Stick, The activation information is stored in the Windows registry. Unless you remove those entries or re-install your OS there is no need to re-activate the NGX and thus there will be no prompt to re-enter your product key. Now what you are describing (no gauges, no PMDG menu) sounds a lot like a corrupted dll.xml. You need to make sure that you do a clean uninstall of FSX before you proceed. There is a bulletin for this on the PMDG knowledge base. If you stick to these instructions (no pun intended) you shouldn't run into any problems. If you still do, chance is you are doing something wrong. Since you have been around a bit, please sign your name to your posts. Stick, This is a known problem, as far as I can see. PMDG have posted here as recently as Weds this week to say they are "close" to a solution with the third-party activation outfit they're working with. Fingers crossed for an answer soon. I currently get round it in part by loading the default flight first, then the PMDG (but the 2d panels don't work - still, I get to fly). Paul Scholey

Thanks both for your help. I really, really, do not wish to have to install FSX again! If I absolutely need to (and am 100% assured by PMDG that it would resolve the issue) then I would of course do it, but as we all know, unistalling / reinstalling FSX can take all day and having spent 2 days trying to get the NGX activated / working again, I don't relish the thought of taking another day off work to reinstall FSX again. I suppose from my perspective, why should it be necessary to reinstall FSX again to get the NGX working? No other addons are having problems and there is no evidence that there is anything wrong with my FSX installation. All looks well with the registry, it was a standard installation and I can't see what can have gone wrong (having looked at the knowledgebase article). Of course as I said above, I would uninstall / reinstall FSX if I knew it would fix the issue but at the moment, my confidence in that being the case is not high. (and surely PMDG can do something to help their supporting customers, by in someway helping us to force a re-activation again, rather than having to install FSX all over again, to refresh the NGX's presence in the registry. As I said above, I'm really grateful people are trying to help - but this experience of trying to activate and use something purchased, has been the worst I've experience in 20 years of simming. It really is a shame that paying consumers are put under such misery to use something they've bought. @ MorsAbAlto : Is there a way I can manually remove the NGX's licence from my Registry manually, to "force" a re-activation? Ive never removed things from the registry, so pleased excuse my ignorance. Glad you got your VC working at least Paul, when I load any version of the NGX (in any way) I get blank VC and 2D panel. Cheers,David.

EDIT: to above post; Ok, I am performing a full uninstallation of FSX, referencing the above PMDG knowledgebase article to the letter. I will reinstall FSX + Acceleration (no other addons), and then just the NGX and we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed!

Re: forcing a reactivation. Sure, it should be possible if you know what you are looking for. I don't know where the information is stored. You would have to figure that one out for yourself. Generally I'd advice against doing it. If your NGX activated successfully after the first run, dabbling in the registry shouldn't be necessary anyway. The initalization dialogue not popping up sounds like the sim isn't loading the required DLLs. Do a clean reinstall of everything, including removing all FSX related folders and install the latest version of the NGX and livery manager. Then report back. P.S.Looks like the new protection scheme hides the actual key in a file that is in a seperate folder on the hard disk rather than relying only on the registy. You could try to remove any folder with the name FlexNet. But you are doing this on your own risk. Don't blame me if it screws up your NGX.

I am with you on the dll.xml line of thinking and if it is corrupted PMDG have in the past offered to straighten it out if it is sent to them.
