AP disconnects just before the runway

Featured Replies

Hello guys! I have just a question, I wonder why my AP during autoland disconnect just before the gears touch the ground. At something like 100 feet.Do I miss something? Thanks a lot in advance!

I am guessing I suppose, as I do not have the manual to hand, but I would say because you are most likely in single CH mode. Autoland requires both CMD A and CMD B to be active (tune the ILS to both VORs) as well as both FDs, otherwise you will have AP disconnect at 50 ft RA I believe... It is all there in the manuals, just a case of looking and finding the right pages... Andrew

Hmmm that is strange cause I did all these actions during each autoland. Do I must be in Fail-operational mode?

no, I'm pretty sure you get flare in fail-passive too

I'm in Single CH mode.Hmmm i'll do another test on YBAS approach.

You need to have both CMD A and CMD B active to be in dual channel mode for autoland. In Single CH, you will experience the AP kicking off at 50`RA Make sure both CMD A and CMD B are on... Andrew

Ok but each time I press cmd B during an autoland, the cmd A light goes off. Do you know why?

Franck Feuillade

Good call Matt! Of course, APP has to be the active mode before you can activate the second CMD, otherwise you will just end up switching between CMD A and CMD B all the time... Great when we all act together! :) Andrew

Hmmmmm yes im sure that's the problem. Well I'll go test that solution now.Be back soon! Thanks a lot for your help :)

just to add to make double sure, you must be tracking the GS and LOC first then you engage the second autopilot

I'm not sure where that idea comes from. I've done hundreds in fail-passive jets, and it's not required. Just arm the APP and arm the 2nd A/P when you're on an intercept heading. Maybe it's a fail-operational thing.

Ok great it works flawlessly. When activating CMD B after App mode active, I got the land 3 to YBAS :) Merci \o/ !!!
