August 27, 201114 yr ok, so I finally got my new computer and I see that after years (year?) the NGX has been finally released. I just finished setting my computer up today, and I install all these goodies, thinking my computer will blow FSX out of the water.... well I was wrong? I guess it's not particularly this plane, and I might have to look elsewhere, but getting 10 fps roughly, I'm not sure what tweak I can do to get another 15 unless I turn everything down FYI on highest settings my computer ran VRS F18 on it's highest setting as well without a problem (30 fpx max), all the setting almost maxed out at 1680x1050 come to put this NGX and the BAe and I'm only at around 10 fps.... computer specs are: Asus P8P67i5 2500K OC'd to 5.1ghz (Corsair H80 cooling)Nvidia GTX 560ti8gb 1600mhz DDR3 ramOS is running off a SSDFSX on WD Black Caviar 1TB any ideas? I'll give all the further info needed. I might post this in general section too, maybe they have couple things to say as well
August 27, 201114 yr Do you have FSX sp2 installed? How you followed the setup guide in the Ngx intro document? With those specs, the Ngx should run more than okay. Alfredo Terrero
August 27, 201114 yr Did you just go ahead and install everything in one massive go or did you follow NickN's installation guide? Have you applied any tweaks? August 27, 201114 yr Author I have not looked at the documentation. and yes, it was one massive install... lol no tweaks yet. I did not follow installation guide either :( ugh :( and yes, it's SP2 running on DX9
August 27, 201114 yr Uh oh. You're suffering from the deadly case of unoptimized FSX. What you need to do now is uninstall everything. (FSX wise). Addons, SP's, the lot. Anything FSX related uninstall it. Make sure there are no FSX related files in the program files, app data, or program data folders. (including folders like Flight1 etc). I don't have the link at hand but I'm sure if you google NickN setup guide you'll find it. Follow that guide (where relevant) to the T. August 27, 201114 yr My computer is a duo core 2.8GHz running Vista 32 bit, 4G RAM, and Nvidia GT220.This is effectively below PMDGs recommended spec and I had real concerns that it would be able to run the NGX.With my FSX sliders to about half way I get about 20 FPS in the hires VC and about 30 FPS in external view!I only get occasional errors. I don't know how this works but I am delighted.I have optimised my fsx cfg file quite a bit, Graeme Brown
August 27, 201114 yr Author I just did that venetubo config thing that's on the documentation. let's see what that does... that sucks, I've been installing all the FS stuff back for the past few hours :( hopefully it'll make a huge improvement
August 27, 201114 yr It's not uncommon that a non-optimized FSX installation gives you that kind of performance but you should definitely be able to improve that given your hardware. Give it some time and follow the excellent guides that are out there, but do not be afraid to experiment instead of following them blindly. Some poeple will say that the best tweak is to not tweak at all. I really, really beg to differ, but there is no need to repeat this here as it is commonly discussed in various other forums. *******' automatic tweaking tool is a good starting point if you haven't done this manually before. In my opinion uninstalling everything is is a terrible advice that does not help anyone.
August 27, 201114 yr I've seen the difference between bulk installing and installing via Nick N. A lot smoother. Reduced a lot of stutters. August 27, 201114 yr i agree dont think an starting again is the answer and dont expect super performance I have higher specs and I only get around 15-20 FPS but I am fully loaded with weather, track IR etc etc but it is smooth, troubleshooting is the best answer a rebuild may see you back where you started, Win 7 64 bit the way to go though Wayne Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3

Reduced a lot of stutters.I do bulk installing, well not completely but I install all ORBX, then all Carenado. I don't have stutters anymore. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. August 27, 201114 yr I think some parts of NickN's tutorial are a bit "too careful". He is right about many things, but rebooting between various installs, not really necessary. I've been following my installations for a long time, then once I followed his set of rules to the letter, and saw absolutely no difference in performance, except that I need 3 times the time to install everything. My rule is only, do it calmly, start flight between SPs, and open FSX each time new scenery or aircraft is installed. FSX.cfg can be ported over, just leave out trusted section, to clean it up. Other guides are really more system guides, rather than FSX guides.

You are right Word Not Allowed there is no need for rebooting the machine at all except it changes Windows installation or requires in depth set up in registry Maybe it's just one of those things that changes by the systemIn General all that NGX has said is right. Go slow install one after the other and use the tweaks. If you still have problems not getting over 20 come back and we shall see what else can be done. There is a ton of advice floating around here and some is really very good. More or less no quality loss but huge performance gain Ian C. McCulloch 'What would one do without Malt Whisky?
