September 4, 201114 yr I accidently broke my joystick and was wondering as a temporary gap filler, that maybe I could use my pc controller to fly (its a ps3 style logitefch) how well does that work anyway?
September 5, 201114 yr The only controller I've ever used for FSX is a joystick (and the mouse for one day while I was waiting for the joystick to arrive when I first got FSX), so I can't really say, but I'd imagine it's not great. Compared to mouse or keyboard control, what you have is good, but definitely get right on buying a new joystick. I'd recommend flying jetliners while you're waiting for the new joystick. That way you're pretty much using autopilot for the entire flight. -Bram Osterhout
September 5, 201114 yr Yea, I couldn't imagine having much fidelity with a gamepad. You need to do like us old farts do...collect enough gear over the years so that when something breaks, you can roll out the dusty old stuff as backup. ;) I regularly flip flop between a Saitek X-52 system, a Logitech Freedom stick, and as a "last ditch backup", an old MS Sidewinder (or whatever it was called) force feedback stick. September 5, 201114 yr They work great for choppers, because you have effectively two joysticks, which means you can use one for the cyclic and one for the collective pitch, however, since you have no throttle you can let go of and have it stay where you left it if using one of the thumbsticks for that, it can be problematic and you end up having to use buttons to increase and decrease the throttle, which is not ideal.
