September 14, 201114 yr So anyone here planning to watch ABC's new series Pan Am ? This is the inevitable jump to a 60's period show after the success of Mad Men. The Playboy Club is the other series trying this theme. I might give it a go but the first time I see a 747-200 flight deck that looks like a 727 or I see pilots flying a 747 but then see an L1011 landing I will be done....I really hate that lack of attention to detail in tv shows and movies. http://abc.go.com/shows/pan-am Mark. If you have seen Hangover 2 they take off to Bangkok in a 744 and land in a 777 I believe. Even though in the Airport it was listed as a direct flight. Brad Cherrington [email protected] CYYC Based

Haha they did that on purpose. Watch one of the directors cuts where they narrate the film and they talk about it. Chris Miller

October 17, 201114 yr Last night's episode "Eastern Exposure" featured the Kai Tak checkerboard approach with a stiff cross-wind, but they did a very poor job of it. They made a big deal about how difficult it was but did not show or explain that it involved a low altitude 48o turn onto final (that's why this approach was particularly difficult in a cross-wind). They also had the 707 going 200 knots as it passed the checkerboard (with no turn -- just as well since it would not have been possible to make the sharp turn at that speed), and the pilots arguing about whether to land or not after that point. They also showed final approach into a New York area approach but the runway pattern didn't look like any major New York area airport (Not LaGuardia, Newark or as it was called then New York International - Idlewild). I realize the main focus of the show is not the piloting aspect but if they are going to make a big deal about Kai Tak, why not get it right? Mike
October 28, 201114 yr Just to say that Pan Am is going to run on BBC2 starting next month, apparently. Somewhat po-faced article about the show in The Guardian newspaper...http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/oct/27/flight-fancy-female-cabin-crew
October 28, 201114 yr I dont recall ever seeing a movie relating to aircraft where attention to detail was present. The flight deck is always over-scaled, the economy section looks like first class, and the flight attendants are actually doing their job.
