September 6, 201114 yr So anyone here planning to watch ABC's new series Pan Am ? This is the inevitable jump to a 60's period show after the success of Mad Men. The Playboy Club is the other series trying this theme. I might give it a go but the first time I see a 747-200 flight deck that looks like a 727 or I see pilots flying a 747 but then see an L1011 landing I will be done....I really hate that lack of attention to detail in tv shows and movies. http://abc.go.com/shows/pan-am Mark. September 6, 201114 yr They should get Pam Ann on it..http://www.pamann.com/PamAnn.html (Flash website)
September 6, 201114 yr Looks a little too 'House Wives for me. Apparently there's even going to be a CIA operative stewy in the show. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
September 6, 201114 yr Agreed, it'll almost certainly be like be desperate housewives but in an airport setting. Probably with some twenty-something's fantasy version of what the 1960s was like, i.e. a Jimi Hendrix soundtrack in 1961 and that kind of nonsense. The sixties are so cool in that show, even if it's a little gossipy. I enjoy it. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
September 6, 201114 yr To be honest I'm surprised the makers didn't go with setting it at an airline that still exists so they could have some funding for the show and access to cabins, lounges and that kind of thing. Not much chance of that with Pan Am given that the company is now a freight hauling railroad and not an airline LOL, although because that is now the case, it is frankly asking for a spoof of the show to be made. September 6, 201114 yr @chock Actually I don't think it's a bad idea given the current fashion for retro drama. In those days international airline travel was seen by most people who couldn't actually do it as an expensive, glamorous thing -- no stag-parties on cheap flights to Belgrade or package-hols to Ibiza back then. Concorde was the last, belated gasp of that era. So if they catch the 60s come-fly-with-me zeitgeist, and don't screw up and get too soapy with it, it could be a winner.
September 7, 201114 yr I'll watch it.. just for the old aircraft.. !Hmm. They might have to resort to FSX for inflight exterior shots though Seriously, I doubt that aircraft enthusiasts will be seen as the core audience for this show.
September 7, 201114 yr my wife and I will give it a try. not sure if its going to be my cup of tea though... Ciao!

Mark. On the other hand, the sound of propellers while showing pictures of a jet was very effective in "Airplane!" And don't call me Shirley.

September 7, 201114 yr On the other hand, the sound of propellers while showing pictures of a jet was very effective in "Airplane!" You know when I was in the cinema watching that movie when it first came out, and the 707 appeared making that noise like a WW2 bomber, I started laughing, but pretty much everyone in the cinema wondered what I was laughing at. It's amazing how many people missed that audio joke. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
September 10, 201114 yr To be honest I'm surprised the makers didn't go with setting it at an airline that still exists so they could have some funding for the show and access to cabins, lounges and that kind of thing. Al Yeah, but imagine if they showed a scene that 'portrayed the airline in a negative light' and the trillion dollar lawsuit that followed. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
