extremly low FPS (very odd problem here)

Featured Replies

I have a similar laptop, i had to lower a lot of sliders to make the NGX run really smooth. Only did it because of the NGX, the other Add-ons run smooth even with all sliders basically all the way to the right.I get around 20-30 FPS when moving the mouse pointer, when not moving it stays around 50 FPS(Virtual Cockpit).

The same problem hereI run NGX in an i7 2720QM (2,2ghz), GTX 460m, 8g ram laprop and I'm just getting 10 to 15 fps in low settings. Seems that the PMDG's best performance recommendation (Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 (Sandy Bridge core) or better) is not quite reliable. Of course, I followed all the above mentioned tweaks and settings in order to optimize performance. John

Have you turned OFF the VOR COURSE LINES in the CDU(Huge FPS Killer)?
doesnt change anything here

doesnt change anything here
Leave it OFF for now though, if you tune in a VOR with the VOR Course Lines ON you'll see a big loss in your FPS.

I'll post my settings as soon as I'll be home. As per ******* tweak: yes I have try it. I 'm using it long time ago in my Core2Duo (E6850) desktop PC as well (where I'm getting better fps with much higher settings). John

The FS window isn't by any chance touching/overlapping the edge of the screen at any point is it? I can see it isn't on the sides and bottom but what about the top? Fs windows touching screen edges = big FPS drop. Also make sure your AV is excluding the FS folders from active scanning, that can kill.

its already excluded and the position of my window doesnt make any difference. just tried it and its same in fullscreen

This is system: - Processor: Intel Core i7-2630QM- RAM: 12GB 1333MHz DDR3- Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M 3GB DDR5 DX11- HD: 750GB 7200 RPM My settings are attached. Keep in mind that even if it's a gaming laptop, it's still a laptop. Here is a quote from Ryan when i submitted a ticket asking for guidance to tweak FSX, that my help clarify some things."... laptop is never going to FSX as well as a good desktop system. Your CPU is locked at 2.0GHz - many people with desktop i7s are running them at more than twice that clock speed - some as high as 5.0GHz with the desktop Sandy Bridge i5/i7. CPU is the primary performance thing in FSX - the engine hardly uses the graphics card at all. The ******* tweaks above will help somewhat with that, but it's just a fact that the sim really likes a highly overclocked desktop i7 to be able to get high FPS, especially when running complex addons." I'm getting around 20-30 FPS, and it feels really smooth now after the tweaks. My settings.

Looking at the picture of your task manager it seems you are using only the first core of your CPU.Check the AffinityMask parameter in fsx.cfg.Should be 14 without Hypethreading, 84 with hypethreading on.

i tried also 84 and it takes other cores as well but that doesnt change anything on the fps :S

I have a desktop for FSX. Nothing very special Core2quad 2.92GHz (only slight OC), 8gigs DDR2, AsusP5B mobo and Asus GTX275, Win7 x64. With all other addon planes in VC I get around 30 - 50 frames on a simple snecery, almost any weather. But NGX eat it all up and I couldnt get over 10 frames. sad.png And there was no difference if it was with or without clouds, I moved the sliders to less than a half, did many things. Nothing helped. Sure thing I was angry. But then here is what I did.. 1st restored completely original fsx.cfg, applied only the lines for highmemfix + texturemaxload, 2nd used Bojotes cfg config tool, BUT I asked not to use Vsync function. And that did the magic. Now my FPS holds around 17 - 22 in NGX VC. I know its not huge amount, but for me it was nice. Its easy to try this, maybe helps.

I'm sorry, but max settings on any PC is asking quite a bit, on a laptop that's asking a bit too much. Are you using a frame limiter? Bojote's tweaks? Etc.

You should really overclock your CPU! 2.00 GHz is not very much.About 4 GHz should easily be possible. Just make sure your cooler is good enough.
I'll give you a hint (I know someone already mentioned no overclocking). The "M" in 2630QM means "mobile", as in mobile processor.

Your FPS in FSX will go higher the more your clock speeds increase. Example my Q6600 which is the first Quad Core that ever came out runs stock at 2.4 ghz. At this speed with high to ultra high settings it will be fine with the Bell Helicopter, or the Level-D 767. However If I load up the 747-400X or 737-NGX my frames are too jerky to fly. When I overclocked 800 mhz to 3.2 ghz the increase in performance was huge. You really need an average of 3.0 ghz or higher for FSX to start to run optimally. If it takes some of these guys overclocked 4.8 ghz system to run FSX maxed out your definately not going to be able to do it at 2.0 ghz. The reason your probably not noticing any changes in FPS is because your CPU is the bottleneck and you have reached the limits of what you can do at 2.0 ghz clock speeds.
