  1. So I see that all my recent posts have been deleted. Too Bad. Theese posts started a civil and peaceful confrontation trying to explain the reasons why I feel something like buy again an already owned product, with some my questions on one side and some answers on the other side. Not a single offensive word have been used by each side. Evidently there is no space for different opinions in this forum, neither for constructive criticism. So it's not worth continuing discuss here, better continue the debate in other more indipendent forums. My feeling is that continuing to delete posts here and there (look at facebook) neither PMDG nor AVSIM are giving a good image of themselves. Maybe I'm wrong.
  2. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/saving-flight-crashes-p3d-even-with-the-2-3-update/ I had this problem some time ago. In the above link there is some explanation by Adam Breed in a Prepar3d forum thread. I solved removing an aircraft with an error in aircraft.cfg. Cannot understand how it can crash Prepar3d every time one attempt to save or load a flight, but removing the plene solved the problem. I read also (cannot find anymore the post) someone having same problem with an AI aircraft or AI products or some corrupted MTL
  3. Yes, it works a little slower and a bit stutterish on my panels, but I think I know why. In 2.3 I used affinitymask leaving some cores free and configured SPAD to use those free cores. Now in 2.4 I leaved both Prepar3D and SPAD in automatic mode. I see Prepar3d using (finally :-)) all cores, and spad using cores 2 to 7, so maybe a little resources contemption can happen. I want to test Prepar3D with AM 254 or 252 and configure SPAD to use the free core(s), and see if all goes better. Just needing some more free time :-)
  4. 16.5 ??? If you set such value in FSX or P3D 1.4 maybe you can wait for 20-30 minutes to load the scenery. Is P3D 2.2 different in this? I have to try this value at least ine time...
  5. It works with my 280X. Set the MSAA at 4X in the game. In the CCC set the Antialiasing Mode as Application Controlled (otherwise I have stutters) and the Antialiasing method as Supersampling. It seems work well for me.
  6. I found that in Prepar3dv2 (not in 1.4) if you have a powerful GPU you can reduce the fiber frame parameter without have blurries. It seems in this way you dedicate less cpu time in texture loading, freeing it for frames rendering, and gaining fps. Prepar3dv2 seems use the gpu for this purpose. In Prepar3d 14. instead, if you configure a too low fiber frame value you have a lot of blurries; evidently it doesn't use the GPU for this purpose. Having a "modest" AMD phenom 4 core 3.4 GHz, and changing from a RADEON 5870 to a R9280X, I changed the previous parameter FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.25 in 0.10 with optimal results, and I'm testing now 0.05.
  7. Ugly and unusable product at the actual state. I requested again a configuration tool, just to choice what enable and where. Here is the post, http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/70977-really-needed-a-configuration-tool/ if you agree add at least a +1. If they don't change their minds the only choice for me is uninstall the product and wait for UTX v2
  8. hello Charles, thanks for suggestions. I set the AA to Multisample in CCC and it seems the only CCC setting that works. All the other seems ignored by application, even if set in override mode. Changing the AA from 8 to 4 and backwards seems not have effect for me in FPS. I'm not sure the software is interfacing correctly drivers for my card. Do you use tessellation? I can't see any visual difference except for a big loss in frame rate. Planning to change it in a more powerful card.
  9. Hello, I have an old 5870, and it goes almost well. I can set 8XAA and 16XAF into the game without noticeable loss of FPS. Is it my impression or change settings through CCC seems to have no effect? How about tessellation and other parameters? In my system tessellation eat frames, so I had to disable it.

There is another way. I will not come back to FSX after having experienced P3D so... No P3D no party, I'll not buy the 777 and any product not working in P3D. I'll fly with other vendors planes, and will continue to fly happy as I was up to now, before the 777 existed.
  11. Hello, i made a lot of other tests about VAS from my last post, and more or less I can confirm all the indications written up to now. I have only to add another possible cause of VAS usage: Having more than one scenery layer activated for the same region can waste VAS resources, as the simulator draws only the last upper layer but load in memory also the previous (unless the developer of the last included a big exclude file for everything under, that is an exception more than a rule). Fo example, if you have Austria Professional or Switzerland professional or some detailed local scenery, you can conveniently deactivate underlying UTX Europe layers, expecially the roads, consuming alone nearly 500Mbyte. Same thing if you are using photoreals or Orbx, deactivate underneath unneeded layers of the same country. This, plus avoiding excessive HD textures for airplanes, plus reducing LOD_Radius to 4.5 when using NGX, solved almost all OOM problems for me.
  12. Maybe they have good commercial reasons, and they, as software producers, can choose their marketing stategy. At the same time I, as customer, can choose my buying strategy. As I almost abandoned FSX more than one year ago and moved to Prepar3D, my strategy at moment is not install in P3D all not P3D compliant or not P3D licensed products, and substitute them with some or other products made by companies supporting P3D. So as GEX is not licensed to P3D, no GEX for me, waiting for FTX Global, bye bye Flight1, hello Orbx. At the moment I'm still using FSX only to fly PMDG 737NGX, but if they will persist in their policy (maybe they cannot change it... for now), in same way bye bye PMDG, hello Ifly, Quality Wings, Aerosoft, Majestic, and so on. Only my humble opinion and personal choice.
  13. Try to play with the fiber frame. If you have low values (0.10-0.209 you gain fps but can more easily have blurries. If you increase this value to 0.40 or more, you will reduce blurries losing fps. If you don't have this line in the cfg the default value of 0.33 would be used. I found my limit in FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.25 but my cpu is slower then yours so you can try lower values. Another blurries generator is MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=3 but eliminating this line in FSX can introduce stutters (in P3D I deleted it). Best Luck
  14. What do you mean as "manual load"? I have similar problems and I am interested in this solution. Is it possible in some way activate selectively the dll withouth edit the dll.xml and restart FSX? Edit: OOpsss, sorry I read the following posts. Very interesting, I will try it tonight.

+1 Thanks for this fantastic program and for all the effort you are dedicating to it. With this software I finally started using Prepar3D as my primary simulator. FSX era is really setting now.
  16. Italy!! A lot of Italian simmers would rush to buy such scenery, even paying it's weight in gold...
  17. It seems you disabled the photoreal layers in London X. If you don't use them, the exclude files in London X scenery will... exclude everything under it, including base terrain "drilling" down until find the water  To see the underneath terrain you have to rename two exclude files, cvxLONDONX4QMIDS2.BGL and exxLONDONX4QMIDS2.BGL, but it will no more exclude the buildings and autogen so you will have a bad mix of buildings. See also http://fsxtimes.wordpress.com/2012/11/28/185-london-x-with-orbx-eng-a-quick-fix/ and http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/51443-ftx-england-and-aerosoft-london-x/ To make them work together correctly I guess would be needed eliminate the London buildings by FTX. I asked in ORBX forum but they replied me it's not possible as London is not contained in specific bgl files. If someone could develop a custom exclude file would make me happy
  18. Very nice tweaks!! I didn't know and I like a lot now I tried them. Thanks for sharing this hint !!
  19. Yes, it contains some Normal and some special landclass, as well different terrain features (roads, railway, warters, ecc) divided in several scenery layers. I contains forests, urban and special custom landclass. It is more accurate on urban and custom but less on country and forests. So, as stated by Flight1 support, if you want use Scenerytech o Cloud9 (one at time), you have to configure them over the forest layer and under the urban and custom ones.
  20. I compared only DX9 FSX and Prepar3d, don't know much about DX10 fixes. I agree at 15 FPS any flight simulator is not what we all would want. For "enough good" I mean only that one can still land a plane in decent way, meanwhile in FSX under 20 FPS landing become very difficult. Obviously, Prepar3D can do much better than 15FPS, according to hardware and settings used. To all of you, why be upset? Smiles and safe landings.
  21. FEX is a double both with GEX and REX. It has textures but in my opinion GEX for ground and REX for sky are better. To understand better the functions each add-on can have keep in mind this "herarchy" in fsx: different components make the whole scenery, and each product match one of more of this components. 1) Meshes the elevations of terrain. Product suggested FSGlobal, 2010 or ultimate according your disk space. 2) Landclass, the type of terrain. Scenerytech or Xcloud. 3) Terrain layer, as roads, rivers, lakes, coasts. Photoreal scenery (Megascenery or better Sim Savvy America, franceVFR) or generated scenery (UTX) or both (Switzerland professional, Orbx) 4) Textures, the graphic aspect of the matching landclass. (GEX for ground, REX for sky and water). On photoreal scenery the ground textures are not used as they use their own. 5) Objects and other. (all the airports and more) 6) Enhancements products, covering a specific function as AS2012 for weather, Accufeel for sound end bump effects, and a lot of others. This is also more or less the order in which one should install them, as to have in the scenery library the correct priority order (meshes, landclass, terrain, objects airport, from bottom to top).
  22. It's not only a matter of FPS. At same number of FPS Prepar3D il long way smoother than FSX. From my point of view FSX become unflyable under 20-22, Prepar3D is still enough good at 15. Moreover, P3D well configured (see Word Not Allowed guide) is almost exempt from stutters and blurries issues.
  23. Thanks for your very valuable work. Useful, handful and clear.
  24. Ok, I made some further testing. I tried rising the third value to 2048 and even to 4096 with no results. Seraching in google for the string SharedSection=1024,20480 you can find some applications requiring to increase the third value to 2048, and theese application (print o fax servers) make use of multiple user connections, so don't know how changing this parameter can affect the use of VAS by a single user (as in FSX/Prepar3D). So, for my system this parameter maybe can provide some help (if any), but don't solve the OOM problem. The only way I found at the moment is to reduce LOD_Radius and/or autogen (and still have to test AA reduction).
  25. I tried last night a brief flight near Wien (Austria Professional) using Ants Sierra (not complex plane as NGX) LOD_Radius 6.5 and autogen max (ok little extreme settings) and... had the second OOM by Prepar3D in several months. Reflying in same conditions repeated the error (after some minutes plus or minus). Flying far from Wien was ok (into Austria), so maybe there is a high concentration in autogen and 3d objects. So the settings is not bad but didn't made the miracle for me. Anyway I want test a little further...
