Cables connection

Featured Replies

Hi My new Pc is almost ready to go ;) I have mobo Asus P8Z68-V Pro and I want to connect all the stuff there. I have these places to connect cables:- PWR_FAN1 (3 pins)- PWR_FAN2 (3 pins)- CPU_FAN (4 pins)- CPU_FAN_OPT (4 pins)- CHA_FAN1 (4 pins)- CHA_FAN2 (3 pins) I have these things to connect:- Cooler Corsair Hydro H80: it has two fans with 3 pins each and it has the heatsink with a cable with 3 pins, and there is also a place in the heatsink which comes without a cable and I don´t know what to connect there two images attached)- Fans: one is in the front of the case and another one is on the top of it, each one with a cable of 3 pins- Power and Reset button from the case, as well as some internet ports on the case: they come with a cable of 3 pins, which I don´t know if it is a cable for each of both buttons are served by one cable only In the pictures below:- cables coming from the 2 fans of the cooler- 2 cables coming from the heatsink, one of those is a big one with just 2 pins (I don´t know where to connect it) - Note that the heatsink itself has also another place in the upper side which needs a cable (or not...)- extra cables and connections: I don´t know what to do with them...- top fan and top front of the case: there is a power button, a reset button and some ports for USB and so on...(more photos in the next post) Can someone help me to connect these cables? Thanks harpsi

You should put the radiator fans into the pump and then the pump leed into the nearest 3/4 pin on your motherboard. Your other two can just go to their nearest 3/4 pin connectors. The power switch and that need to go to the bottom right corner of the board, you will need to consult the manual to find out where they all plug into.

Well, I have read the manual but there are not good images... I am trying to connect those but no way :\ harpsi

OK, well someone with a ASUS mobo will have to help sorry.

Hi again I will show you somethings: - photo 1: I don´t know what to connect there in the cooler- photo 2: I don´t know where to connect those cables- photo 3: the left and the center cable are coming from the cooler fans, and the right cable is coming from the heatsink; is this correct?- photo 4: this cable is one of the two cable divisions coming from the heatsink; is this correct?- photo 5: the back of the mobo is supposed to get a squared and crossed thing to sustain the mobo, or to give stability; i can´t put that object in... can I leave it like that? harpsi

Check your manual. On page 1-1 you see the ASUS Q-Connector kit. The cables in your photo 2 above must be connected to the Q Connector. That, in turn is connected to The System Pane Connector, item 13 on pages 2-2 and 2-3. Consider this a freebie. If you are going to purchase this kind of technology and then not even read the manual, you are a moron and should take up a new hobby.

Those are black ones.... The others with colours are already conected like you said. That´s the problem :) harpsi

I'm talking about the gray cables and connectors. Those are your front panel connectors for such things as your on/off switch, reset, HDD activity LED, etc. Check your MANUAL page 2-29.

The last time I checked the Corsair site, when I installed my H70, they recommend that you Do Not use the CPU fan header for your pump. The voltage on the CPU fan header will vary depending on the load on the CPU. The pump needs to run at a constant rpm ( in my case it is 1400 +/- for my H70). Better to run your pump on the nearest 3 pin CHA (chasis) or FAN header.

This is easily remedied by setting the CPU Fan to manual 100% in BIOS. The CPU header is in a better position to plug the pump into (especially aesthetically), and many of us use the motherboard fan headers for case fans and therefore can't spare them.

Hi The PC is now running and it is very fast and stable, without overclocking for now ;) I connected the cables like this (Asus P8Z68-V Pro) from the right to the left of the mobo and from the top to the bottom:- PWR FAN 1: the cable which comes from the heatsink itself- CPU FAN: one of the fans connected to the radiator of the cooler- CPU FAN OPT: the other fan connected to the radiator of the cooler- PWR FAN 2: no cable connected here- CHA FAN 1: the front fan of the case- CHA FAN 2: the top fan of the case About the fans and the orientation of them:- the fans from the radiator are turned to the back of the case, which means the corsair logo is pointing to the back (outside) of the case- the front fan has the logo also pointing to the back (outside) of the case- the top fan has the logo pointing to the inside of the caseThis means (if I am correct) that the airflow comes from the top (one fan), front (another fan) and bottom (from the PSU itselft) and goes out from the back of the case (two cooler fans). I don´t know if it is correct or not. Anyway, the temperatures of the Mobo and 4 cores without overclocking are more or less 28 to 30ºC for the mobo and 35 to 39ºC for each core. Another thing: the computer goes to hibernation if I am away of it for some hours... maybe this is a function of the motherboard which is switched on for powerless consumption / energy saving if you are away from the keyboard. I would like that the PC continue its work while I am sleeping... Is there a way to do that? The last thing:Thank you very much to all of you that helped me to choose this machine. In some days I will move to the other section to install FSX and tweak the basic things. After that I will turn back to this section for the overclocking of the system. ;)Review in some words only: i7-2600k, Asus P8Z68-V Pro, G. Skill 1600 CL7 2X4GB memory, HDD Corsair SSD 60GB, HDD WD 6GB/s 1TB of space, Corsair Hydro H80, PSU Corsair TX950W, Asus GTX580, Case Corsair Graphite CC600T Black, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits SP1, and a lot more ;) harpsi

I connected the cables like this (Asus P8Z68-V Pro) from the right to the left of the mobo and from the top to the bottom:- PWR FAN 1: the cable which comes from the heatsink itself <---By this I assume you mean the cable that comes from the PUMP?- CPU FAN: one of the fans connected to the radiator of the cooler- CPU FAN OPT: the other fan connected to the radiator of the cooler- PWR FAN 2: no cable connected here- CHA FAN 1: the front fan of the case- CHA FAN 2: the top fan of the case
Seems a bit disorganized, no offense. I would connect them in such a way that the numbers correspond to the position of the fan, bottom front to rear top. This makes figuring out which fans are which easier when in the BIOS and using programs like speed fan. Also, for the number of fans you're using, I suggest a decent fan controller. With a great case like that, I'd want it in top shape and organization! Only my two cents, as always. In the mean time, I suggest plugging the pump into the CPU header, like I suggested above. Set it, in the BIOS, to manual 100%. Obviously you'll want the two radiator fans at the same voltage/RPM. As for the hibernation, is it disabled in your Windows 7 power options?

Hi I don´t have numbers on the fans... I don´t understand your explanation sorry... Fan controller? I have a fan controller on the case itself, but in this case every fan is controlled by the motherboard... What is the "pump" and "CPU header"? I disabled power options already... Thanks harpsi

Hi Here are the images:- image 1: green arrow is going to PWR FAN 1; red arrows are going to CPU FAN and CPU FAN OPT- image 2: yellow arrow comes from the front fan of the case and goes to CHA FAN 2- image 3: blue arrow comes from the top fan of the case and goes to CHA FAN 1- image 4: the speed of all 5 fans (I don´t know which one belongs to which speed :\) harpsi

A "header" is the fan connector on the motherboard. The CPU header is the one labeled "CPU FAN". The pump is the heart of your cooling system! It pumps the liquid between your CPU and radiator. It's the black box that sits atop your CPU heat spreader and is powered by the "PWR FAN 1". A fan controller is a useful hardware piece that you can run all fans into, controlling them individually by knobs or buttons. Like this: http://www.newegg.co...ntroller-Panels What do you mean "disabled power options?" You have to have one selected... Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings You always want the PUMP (the one currently connected to "PWR FAN 1") at 100%. Never less.
